...and I stayed for the 'feel good'.

Maybe not like the feel good I did last night with the wife, but definetly close to it.

How 'bout you?

I came here because I was searching the web for cool photos one day...

and stayed because I found the community friendly, helpful and welcoming.

If I wanted to, I could read that as "I stayed because I get shafted regularly..." but I choose not to, Brother Horse :-)

I hang out here more than at any other photo site because of the community, the human interactions, definitely.

I'm sorry, just got off work, I don't get it.

The only 'Shaft' I know of is a bad muthaf....!

I came here looking for ways to improve my photography, and I sure found 'em... then realized I'd also found a great community, and wound up workin' here! Don't know what I'd do without it, even though I don't find time to enter much these days.

I don't want to use the f-word in this thread, so I used "shafted" as a synonym, cuz that's the etymology of the slang. You told us it's not as good, but closeto the feel-good with the wife "last night" so my imagination ran away with me.

It does that, you know?

I have only been here a month or so, but I guess I came here to get away from my addiction to video games and learn how to use my camera better. Break out of that snapshot mode and try to actually think about and compose my shots.

I stay here because I have a slightly addictive personality (that update button is like heroin) but for many other reasons as well. Great community, awesome camera and Photoshop tips - oh yeah, and I am a glutton for punishment - bring on the trolls baby.

A fine reason, to be sure!

I came here because they said there'd be punch and pie.

....I'm still wait-ING!

Post a poor snapshot of your dog and I'm sure you'll get the punch...

I came for photography contests.
I stayed for the knowledge and mostly high maturity level of forums.

I stayed because I'm into pain. :)

I needed an alternative to the popularity contests at other post it and brag on it sites. And I adore the challenges. But the community... that's why I've sayted.

I came here to check out the competition (and this has nothing to do with photography and everything to do with reasons i'm not going into :D) and stayed here because I like smearing myself and my pictures all over the internet. It's the only photography community I'm in.

I came because I enjoy challenges. BUT, since I've been having an enormous problem getting off my lazy butt to participate in the challenges, I stay because for the community, the good-natured humorous chatter, and the inspiration I feel from seeing so many remarkable photos here (and the hope of someday getting off my lazy butt to participate again! :)

I came here because I was under the delusion that my photography was good; and I needed a reality check.

I'm still here because I can't seem to stop checking.

I came because I was looking for regular themes (the challenges) to test my ability across a variety of styles and to see how others interpret those themes, the results they achieve and to develop my skills at the same time.

I'm still here because I truly respect others that are willing to share their (good) advice and the effort they put in.... and I try to chip in where I can help too.

I came here because a friend talked me into it. Now she's not that active anymore :( Anyway, I came here to improve my photography and I'm walking away with great friends both near and far ;)

Still got that futon ready for me Bear if and when I go to the Cape for your mentorship? I still haven't forgotten about that ;)

Forty or so years ago, my grandmother gave me my uncle's old Kodak Brownie. It took 620 roll film and I never actually put film in it. But I got a Kodak Instamatic of my own a few years later and took silly snaps of everything I saw.

Roll forward to high school and college and I'm shooting with my Pentax K1000 for the yearbook and the newspaper, rolling my own (film) and learning the tricks of the dark-room. But then I got married, got a job, kids, a mortgage, etc. Film shooting got expensive and I stopped taking pictures. I put my cameras and lenses in a closet and forgot about them.

But then someone invented digital cameras and eventually the prices came down enough for me to buy a cheap one. Suddenly I'm taking all the pictures I want. I can review them and even toss the bad ones (lots of bad ones) at no cost.

Then I got a better camera.
Then I found out that Pentax has a new digital, and my old lenses will fit it. Ooh Christmas be good to me..

Well, Santa came through, so now I need to learn how to shoot again.

That's why I'm here.
I'm forty-five years old and I'm learning incredible things from a bunch of kids-- a bunch of really talented kids.

And I'm taking pictures again.
