Please note: This post has been edited to take advantage of a good suggestion by keegbow.
This will be good practice because enrollment in the second season of the League of Death will likely occur next week and I will be using your "Top 95%ile Ratio" as a way of seeding the upper half of entrants.
How do I calculate this?
Take the # of challenge entries on your profile and divide by the # of challenges you have finished 95% or higher (the column listed merely as "%")
If you get a number less than 1 you did it backwards. If you have no finishes above the 95%ile your number is technically infinity, (but of course that doesn't make sense in the real world).
The lower the number the better.
For example:
DrAchoo
49 Challenges
15 finishes at 95% or above
49/15 equals 3.27
In real words this means DrAchoo can expect to finish in the 95%ile once every 3.27 challenges he enters.
I'm also open to tweaks or suggestions. I plan on having a minimum number of challenge entries as 5. This won't mean you can't participate, but if you have 4 or less entries you cannot be seeded this season. After some thought I think it may be the best (albeit still a rough) metric for ranking people.
So fire away, let's see whatcha got...

Maybe there are going to be less people interested in Season Two than I think... |

Oh, I'm interested. Count me in. I got hammered this time around.

PS: my top 10 ratio sux; it's what happens when you enter every challenge, rain or shine...

It's 8.333333333..... right now
It'll be 9.33333333..... by the time you get around to seeding.

Ok, hold on. I'm not taking names yet. :) That will be next week. I just wanted to make sure this statistic made sense to people and people generally felt it was valid to use as a tool. |

I'd be interested. But how would I know when to sign up? I missed Season 1 (don't look at the forums every day), and chances are I might miss Season 2 enrollment as well. Is there any place/time to check the status of this affair?

Doc I don't think top 10 is a good method. Some challnegs that have a 150 entries are easier to get a top ten then a challenge with 600 entries.
The better method would be a to use the top 90% ratio. |

Hmmm, that's not bad keegbow. I'll keep that in mind and might go with that. |

..why not just calculate the average percentile then?
Edit: ...on a second thought, I guess it would be harder to compute manually. never mind.

I think it's a good idea to do as keegbow suggested. My number was 14 your original way and 4.67 keegbow's way. |

OK keegbow, good stuff. I changed the original post. I went, actually, with 95%ile because it just means less counting. Some people (cough)Kiwiness(cough) may need to count quite a bit down to see how many 90%ile they have and this will just limit that. |

huh
41 entries
3 95% finishes
1 in 13.666666666666666667
Oh dear
edit:
41 entries
7 90% finish
1 in 5.86

This is just for those that qualify right (i.e. have a ribbon)? Mine is 4.5, which may get a little better after the turnover but alas no ribbons. :(

total entries: 56
95% or higher: 19
56/19 = 2.95

I don't understand where the 12 comes in? Shouldn't it be 49/15 = 3.27
lol looks like you calculated at 15 and 12 is a typo.

jejeje™, you did that on purpose.... I have 8 95% or above, I have 13 93% or above.... meanie!
MY whole goal here is NOT to get seeded against kiwiness in rd 1...
I propose an additional seeding criterion, called the "music exemption"; nobody with a blue ribbon has to face Gary in Rd 1...

It should be divided by 15, not 12.
For some of us old timers that started out not doing very well it probably would be interesting to compare first x number years, last x number year, or first half, second half. |

Ask again when there's a way to divide by zero. |

my score is invariant - either way (top 10 or top 5%) it's 75/13=5.77
