Canon Picture Styles - DPChallenge Forums

With a few of the latest releases from Canon, you get a feature called 'Picture Styles'. Basically it's a name for a set of defaults for various camera parameters.

In no particular order, they are:

1. Sharpness
2. Contrast
3. Brightness
4. Saturation

For those of you photographers out there that have this feature, can you post the various details to each of the 'Picture Styles'?

I think this is only defaults for existing camera parameters and I'd like to try them out in camera by dialing in the values.

Are in the in-camera defaults for the Styles different than what you can download? Could you not just download the DPP version and take the info off that?

If you shoot RAW, get DPP - it has a drop down box of the styles to you can apply them to the image.

I was playing with them yesterday - it is different than my 300D - on my rebel i had 5 choices for each item and the middle was the default. On the 30D you get 10 choices, and default is like 2 or 3 out of the 10.

standard seems to be the sharpest - it is +1 on the sharpness compared to the other settings (it's 3, the others are 2)
neutral is just that - nothing is boosted.
faithful is more saturated (+1)
monochrome is cool - you can add color filters (liek b&w photography, green, orange, etc) to it or tone it (sepia, etc) and if you shoot RAW you can make it color again.

So i am not sure you can set the 20D up for the same settings as the 30D - there are 5 i think choices and 3 more you can set up as you like for a total of 8.

Is DPP downloadable (or purchase-able) from somewhere? Canon's site is a bit confusing and it looks to me like you have to own it, and then can upgrade for free. Is this true?

us lowly 300D users want to play :)

I know the 'updates' to DPP are available for download. I don't know about the full version.

Was hoping someone who knew the styles would go ahead and post them. Guess I am going to have to break my computer / workflow for a bit to get them. Then I'll post them for others who would like to try the values in their parameters.
