I'm new to CS2 and DPC and I am going nuts! Is using Bridge going to possibly DQ me in any way?

Here's what I'm doing:

1. Copy RAW files from camera using Windows into "Inbox"
2. Sort and rate files in folder using Bridge. I'd like to do Batch Rename but I'm not sure that is safe!
3. Open in Adobe Camera Raw. Make changes in Raw and save as .PSD
4. Edit .PSD in PS etc... This part I'm fine with

Am I affecting the original doing this??

Does it strip EXIF?

I pretty sure the answer is no it does not strip the exif. I don't think that is the issue. I'm more worried about whether or not Bridge is modifying my .NEF raw file in any way.

I thought your RAW files would be untouched. So make sure you keep them in a safe folder (RAW/originals folder)

I just go to the folder with the photos in it "select all" go "cut" then select or create a folder that I want them in and I go "paste"! To easy and no chance of damage or change to original files.

If files are rated or labeled using Adobe Bridge, is the label written to the photo itself or only cached?

Okay this is similiar to a question that has been bugging me. I wonder if Canon Digital Photo Professional alters the EXIF info on a RAW image. I downloaded Irfanview to check it and I can't see any indication of the EXIF being altered but can anyone out there verify this or not.

At least for bridge, all the meta-edits you do to the RAW file are saved in one of two places. Either a 'sidecar' xmp file, which saves the adjustments in the same directory, beside the RAW file, or in a central photoshop database. You have the choice of where these adjustments get recorded, but neither of them are in the RAW file itself.

There are pros/cons to either location.

From the way I use it (with the sidecar.xmp), Gordon is correct. Nothing is written to the RAW file. Not even sure CS or CS2 can write to it at all. There is an Adobe RAW, but entirely different from what I have read.

I used Adobe Bridge for the RAW of my 4th place in Afterlife, it validated just fine. That might give you a piece of mind. I believe anything you add to the info or change is saved as a separate file that rides beside the original RAW.

No bridge does not strip or modify any of the EXIF data. All the rating and sorting that you do to an image is saved in a file called .xmp. This file contains all the sorting / rating info you do in bridge.

I've been using bridge for more than a few months now. No problems at all.

Thanks everyone. That does give me peace of mind. I was aware of the xmp files but wasn't sure if there was still some way the original was getting modded. Thanks again
