Hello

I bought this camera this last weekend. I was on this site before with a sony cybershot..but anyway...am I out of my mind or is this camera not listed on this site? The model is taken right from the canon website and the box/body of the camera.

is it a regional thing that I dont have the "350d" anywhere on my camera?

JenHall - Costco, or where? I'm getting mine tomorrow btw. I've been researching, and decided that's for me too. - RalfW

A bit off topic maybe, but what is the deal with the whole 350D/XT thing? The Canon site lists them seperatly, as the 350D and the 350 Rebel XT. I thought they were the same camera... Is there some difference I'm missing, 'cause they seemed the same when I took a quick look at the specs?

Good point, OdysseyF22.
Might be slight differences - I'm looking at the 350 Rebel XT, but I think that DPC really only has one entry because the cameras are probably nearly identical, maybe only regional differences.
I do know the 350 Rebel XT at Costco is the silver/black body, versus the black body. (Which many prefer, but I have no concerns with the silver body.)

from more searching I believe the big difference between my camera- Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT with 18mm-to-55mm lens (silver)- and the 350xt is the pixel count

350has 8.2
mine has 8.0

Either way im pleased as punch to have my new addition!

I'm pretty sure it's all one and the same camera. This review shows both names as being equivalent ("the Digital Rebel XT (aka EOS-350D)" --from the review.
Also, all Rebel XTs are 8.0 MP--the 20D has 8.2.
Mine should be here after I get home from work!

350D and the XT are exactly the same camera with the single exception of the logo on the camera front.

Good tip, dahved. Thank you. I'll check it out!

(That $100 rebate by the way is from Canon directly, April 1 through May I believe, maybe into June.)

Glad to help, Ralf. I knew that as soon as I ordered mine, some deal would come up. Oh well, mine should be waiting for me at home after work today.

Don't forget Japan.

In Japan it's called the Kiss n Digital
In the States it's called the Rebel XT
Everywhere else it's called the 350D

It's a branding/marketing thing, Rebel XT will sell better in the states, Kiss n Digital sells better in Japan.

Yes!!!
I got mine, yesterday.
I´m very satisfied with it. It´s quickly and reliable. I bit plastic, but great at features.
I left the Nikon team... to get in Cannon Team!

Woohoo! Dove in this past Saturday myself and purchased my Rebel 350D.
Took over 300 "test shots" this weekend. (Long exposure, macro, action, stuck pixel tests, and on and on...)
Love the performance - I'm impressed!
Ended up getting the stock kit, which is the 350D with the 18-55 macro/zoom lens. Very impressed for such a "stock lens".
Glad I took the plunge! (I guess now it's time to start paying it off!)

I wasn't aware that the kit lens was a macro-capable lens...

I'm a fan of kit lenses too. I am still trying to decide what lens to get for my 30D... Might get the 18-55 just as a stepping stone lens.

A lot of people don't care for that lens much, but everyone I know that uses it likes it and makes great pictures with it.

Good lens overall? Maybe not. Good enough? Very likely.

Incidentally, the Kiss N kit comes with the 18-55 USM version. Lucky Japanese.

Of course, living in Taiwan, I could get one too...

The 18-55/3.5-5.6 is a very good lens for the money - it's about £50 (Body only £499 with Lens £549) so despite the criticism of some I do not know of a more cost effective lens - it is pretty good.

Fot those of us are on a budget it's great - and this article does a very fair comparison

Welcome back Jen, and congrats on your new camera.
05/01/2006 11:01:40 PM · #25
Hi Jen.

I too originally joined this site with a Sony cybershot and just 30 minutes ago ordered my EOS-350D Rebel XT from B&H.
I researched for a month solid before making my decision and more importantly, getting my wife's approval. I should have mine Thursday.
I CAN'T WAIT!!!

Just in case anyone is interested...you can download the user manual from Canons site if you want to get a head start before you camer arives. I did and I think it will help.
