I just picked up the 30D from my local photo shop. I haven't seen anything posted yet and was told that the 30D just hit the US this week. I'll post some shots after this weekend.
If anyone else has it and can offer any helpful hints, it would be appreciated.

Dainty lil, thang, ain't she? I had to attach a battery grip to turn it into something that felt like a real camera. ;-)
What I've found:
• She's faster than I.
• Finally, a spot meter! (This alone 's why a bought the dang thang).
• The back of the grip is now smooth plastic. What happened to the slip-proof texture?
• There's no compatible Camera Raw plugin yet from Adobe. (Open in DPP > transfer to PS CS). |

zeuszen,
Thanks,
I bought the battery grip a month ago anticipating the release of the camera.
The spot meter was the reason I spent the extra and didn't go with the 20d.
I'm reading and learning. Gonna try out some shooting at a local park tomorrow if the weather holds.
Thanks |

You're not missing much. The 30d is to the 20d what the d70s is to the d70.

Absolutely rider, after this weekend, my time will free up quite a bit. After I get a little used to it, I'll post a few pics for a critique.

hello,
since from what i read and hear from other 20D users, the main problem with the 20D stems from the batt grip which gives inconsistent power transfer/readout.
And due to the fact that the 30D uses the same Batt grip, do you think it will give out the same issues?

I understand that only early production models (20D) were effected. I have not found any ill effects - yet, but I've used both, cam and grip, for barely a day now...

zerocusa,
You may be right and I will be the first to post it here. Stay tuned.
My only reference point so far with Canon is the rebel and I have not had even a minor problem, (knock on wood)even after my wife dropped it. I can only hope for the same experience.
Thanks |

I just got a new 5d (which rocks my world by the way) and up until yesterday when i got CS2 (CS1 didnt support the 5d cr2's) , I downloaded the DNG converter from adobe's website. Just convert all your raws to dng and youre good to go... they actually take up a little less space too...
:)

Thanks Maxpower,
I appreciate the information on the raw files. These are the little things that help so much.

Thanks, David. Fritz (Kirbic) also just educated me about the DNG converter. I'll give it a go next chance I have. |
