Hmm, here we go again?

Two of the three ribbon winners do not state their shutter speed with their entries.

The Blue has everything else exept that, The yellow has no camera details at all. I wonder why?

That is kind of cheesy. Isn't it a required field on entry submission? I know it can be bypassed, but still...

Oh well, water under the bridge I guess. ;^) Nice photo's that won. Congrats to the winners.

When the challenge says shoot at exactly 2 seconds...they didn't mean it. ;o)

DNMC is not actually qualification for a DQ.

Never has been, never will be.

It should be in this instance. If you can't follow one simple rule of a challenge it should get a dq...

It does seem like kind of a bummer when people who didn't even try to adhere to the challenge place highly (one of the top five already posted before the challenged started that they didn't use a 2 sec exposure) but it's true that DNMC isn't DQable. :/

That does indeed suck

Perhaps in future when there is a technical requirement such as this - this being a fairly rare sort of challenge - it might be appropriate to add a yellow flag to the rules that this is a DQ level requirement.

A lesson learned for the future?

I notice that the ribbon winners have updated their stats though...

Perhaps technical challenges should have a special rule that makes the technical bit compulsory. It's easy to do coz it's done for several other challenges

edit: Ooops, I wasn't quick enuff escheler got there first :)

They should at least post their shutter speed. If this is a learning site leaving it blank hurts the education process. Some people will think the photographer was able to produce that effect with a 2 second shutter speed. I think I've already read a couple of comments that assumed that was the case.

How do we know then whether they used 2 seconds or not... or are we guessing?

If that's the only infor they left out, what do you think?

My entry doesn't look like a long exposure, but it was.
03/27/2006 01:04:42 AM · #15
well, I can say my entry was exactly 2 seconds....listed in the info, and I had a mini-duel going on that required I send Rikki my EXIF

Shouldn't have to look like it was 2 seconds, as LONG as it WAS 2 seconds.

Ok I see some ppl are not happy, well this was by far the hardest shot I have taken, the waterfall was so strong that the mist got everything wet, and at the same time I had to balance myself (w/ a tripod) on slippery rocks (yes dangerous). I tried 2 second shots and they came out way way to bright, little by little I lowered the shutter until 1/2 second, then it came out. The sun is very strong (even on this cloudy day) up in the andes mnts., even with an ND4 filter I couldn't get it to come out at 2 seconds. I submited only because of the amount of effort I put into the shot. Sorry to those who do not like my choice to submit.

Man, I would have submitted a different shot if I had realized it didn't have to be 2 seconds. We could have just submitted anything.

I entered an orange photo for yellow. I figured it was close enough, and the challenge info left me room for interpretation...

Mine was definitely 2 seconds...and it sank faster than the titanic. I had heaps of beautiful shots that weren't two seconds...but at least I abided by the rules.

That was really only a 1/2 second shot at f22? WOW! That is amazing. It's a beautiful shot, don't get anyone wrong, it's fantastic, but you know how the people can be about the challenge descriptions, especially the ones that are so specific. But it's not our decision, it's up the SC and you to work it out. Again, a very beautiful shot.

my imiage was two seconds to the tee. i couldn't get it right but i followed the descriptions as well.

NO wonder you got it in so fast, you just shot the orange in your fridge, didn't you?

I had the same problems.....slippery snow, wind, mist, and bright sun. I hada ND4 filter too. I eneded up waiting 4 hours for the sun to start setting to get my shot in the 2 seconds as before then they were too bright. Patience is a virtue.

edited for typos
