Boy, we're having a bad baby month in our family. This is my cousin Darrell's new baby. Born two full months early today (1am) and weighing in at 2lbs 7ozs. He was taken by C-section due to his mother developing pre-eclampsia (not sure if I spelled that right). He seems to be in very good shape for being so early. I can't get over how tiny he is. He doesn't have a name yet because his mother is still in ICU with extremely high blood pressure. She won't name him until she can see him. The picture isn't too good because it's taken through that thick plexiglass that the incubator is made of.

For a Maddy update see this thread... Maddy

Thanks again for all your best wishes and prayers.

My 2nd was born at 27 weeks - 2 lbs 5 oz.

He turns 13 in April with no ongoing health issues. The next year or two are going to be rough, but it can work out. I wish you and yours the best.

My wife and are are currently going through the same thing. In January she was pregnant with twins and developed severe pre-eclampsia. She had an emergency c-section at 26 weeks gestastion on Jan 27th. Alissa weighed only 13 oz and past away after 10 days. Landon, was born at 1 lb 9 oz and eight weeks later he his just under 3 lbs. We're hoping to bring him home in a couple weeks.

A few things I've noticed from your picture which might be reassuring. I can't be sure, but it looks like the tube in his mouth is a feeding tube. If he's getting milk that's a great sign. Second, since I only see the feeding tube and no other breathing support, that is also awesome. I hope I am seeing the picture right, but most babies this small require at least some help breathing. Landon is just about to come off his help after 8 weeks, and our doctors are amazed at his progress.

Your cousins' boy looks very strong and healthly, and I can honestly say from my son Landon, he could have been a whole lot smaller! I hope all turns out well.

BTW - Pictures are next to impossible through that plexiglass! Plus it's so dark in the incubator all the time!

Thanks Jason. He was on the breathing tube for about 8 hours then they removed it. And you're correct, the other tube is a feeding tube. They had just inserted that about 12 hours after he was born but hadn't yet tried to feed him. She was 31 weeks. Her due date was May 25th. They are quite confident that all will be well, they said he should be able to go home in about 5 to 6 weeks. I've just never seen a baby that small personally.
And I'm really sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to lose a child.

Edit to add: Thanks to everyone else too!
