Save money, easy to customise (maybe with flames like Setzler?)!

Thats Frikin' Cool! Thanks Bobster!

That is a great idea!
I can imagine printing them on paper, then using the paper as a template to make them out of something more durable. They could then be stored flat, taking up almost no room and adding very little weight to the bag.
Attachment in the field might be a challenge, but I can imagine some ways around that!

Great idea, light velcro may be ok.

Edit: whoops..nearly forgot, thanks Bob.

Yep. And I'm thinking make the hood itself out of something that stretches/gives a little or glue a rubber strip on the inside of the "mount" and you've got a nice, secure attachment.

Latex perhaps, or rubber of some type?

I was thinking of those sheets of craft foam that you buy from art/craft stores for about 50cents each. :) Any color!

Here linky is 12 sheets for $6.50. Stuff is amazingly flexible, easy to cut and water resistant.

Recommend using a hobbie knife to cut. Way easier than using scissors. I'll have to try the craft sheet stuff idnic.

I think that craft foam, in black, might be a good bet. Just stiff enough to resist wind, but very flexible and easy to cut. I think we have some lying about the house. Hmmmm...

Hehe - I was just about to point out that foam makes excellent backdrops for photographing small things :-)

yeah, you could use some stirdy paper like constuction paper, and laminate it, and you can choose colore, Pink for the ladies, flames for the joes. lol

Tried a trial run for my 100mm 2.8macro with plain paper. I didn't have any A4 paper, but used that size in the print driver and loaded reg 8.5x11 paper. That should have printed it same size as on A4 paper I think.

Long story short...didn't fit. Anyone else tried one yet?

anyone knows which size can fit my camera? :S

55mm thread

This is a super idea, but when it comes to lens hoods, there is a ton of stuff on ebay way cheaper than OEM manufactured hoods. We're talking $8 U.S. for a plastic hood average price. Plus aftermarket hoods really don't need to be super quality. As long as it serves it's function.

The paper thing is still a cool idea.

Crayon, I can't find a lens with a 55mm thread, but I did find something you might be interested in.

B+W Lens Hood.

Thanks Leroy. That item's photo gives me an idea. Maybe I can make my own lens hood with some PVC pipes and stick it onto my UV filter, so I could screw it on my 55mm barrel :)

I'm not from the US so I cant use many of the online sites for purchases

I made one, the printer prints on construction paper pretty good. You can bairly see it to cut it out. I didnt use the little tabs at the edge im not sure what they are for. I just glued it together with the end tabs then use a thin strip of electrical tape to attach it.
