Hi, not starting a 'is stock degrading to phoptographers?' discussion here, just giving people a chance to refer me to their stock sites. I've made lots of money just from shutterstock referrals, thought I'd repay the favour.

I'm already with Shutterstock, but over the next few weeks I wanna apply to some more (non-exclusive) stock sites.
Basically, whoever recommends a site first gets my referral. Just pick one, then everyone gets a chance.

disclaimer: I can't promise anything, because some cookie-based systems may already have me under someone else, but I have done much browsing in the past month, so should be ok.

Go!

Hiya

Here's ours for Dreamstime: //www.dreamstime.com/res22397

THANKS!

If you're already with dreamstime, then here's ours for fotolia: //www.fotolia.co.uk/partner/13010

BUT if you haven't already signed up with Dreamstime please use that referral, ignore the fotolia one and someone else on that site can post their fotolia referral link - I like your idea to use one from each poster!

Since we're on the subject of stock...how do you all do with that? Do you do well? I'll use these posts as referrals, too.

Leaf, add one of your referral links and I'll be sure to use yours, too.

I am somewhat new to stock photography (about 4 months), but I am finding that things are moving along. I am with the following sites (and my links to them):

ShutterStock
iStockPhoto
Dreamstime
Big Stock Photo
123 Royalty Free Fotolia

I just barely got accepted by ShutterStock, but it is fast becoming my best seller. I highly recommend this site. You need to submit 10 files for approval. If they approve at least 7 of them, you are in. If you don't make it, you can try again, but you need to wait 3 months, so do the best you can the first time and hopefully everything will work out. ShutterStock is by far my best seller.

123 Royalty Free started well for me but has dropped off a lot lately. They also require 6 MP files.

Fotolia is just getting started for me. Things are still pretty slow. I think it is an up and comer though. They have spent a lot of money growing their site and providing other promotions.

Dreamstime was slow for me at the start, but seems to be picking up a bit.

Big Stock Photo is doing pretty well for me. Others don't seem to report that it is one of theri bigger sellers, but it is mine, but still not close to ShutterStock.

iStock is slow and steady for me. Many report it is a great seller for them, so maybe I am not shooting the type of pictures that their customers want.

Overall, I am pleased with how things are going. I have been working hard to improve my shooting and editing skills and just trying to get mroe pictures to upload.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Litl for the info. Shoot fotomann (no pun intended)...I joined ShutterStock already. If I'd known that there are referral rewards involved then, I wouldn't have plugged the name in my browser.

I'll be joining more for sure........but it looks like I a higher MP camera. Are they all 7MP and higher? Mine is only 5.

I really want to do this though.

Everyone thanks!

iStock and Fotolia will take 2MP (1200 x 1600 pixels) images; Shutterstock wants 2.5MP (essentially, a 3MP) image, and will take an image upsampled by 5% or less -- no upsampling for the others.

Alamy wants a 48MB uncompressed TIFF image, but allows (required) upsampling; they suggest starting with a minimum 6MP image, though you might get away with a 5MP image if it upsamples cleanly.

For the last while I have been averaging between $5.00-$6.00/image/year. I think that is a fairly accurate low average you could expect.

Well, at Shutterstock only it seems I'm closer to $1/image/year, but I don't work at it too hard.

I've been trying to submit to some more sites, but I really can't figure out who wants what in the way of noise-reduction or sharpening -- I get about half my images accepted at either iStock or Fotolia, but not both ... either too much noise-reduction or too much noise (must be doing it just right then, right?!) ... Shutterstock takes maybe 80% ...
