Is 355 entries a record?

Jeez, that'll take a long time to vote! ;)

The only record i'm seeing is a low in my score. I just dropped from 5.0455 to 4.8214 in just 6 votes!!! I admit there are very few WOW type pics but the challenge guidelines probably hurt the quality by banning flowers. Must rush though as i still have 200 pictures to vote on to finish them all.

I dropped from 7.05 to 6.82 in the past two votes. Must be the same cranky voters you got. lol

Same here... I have dropped by a whole 1 point in this challenge by a vote of 6 people. I don't know if people here really do understand the pictures or they just rate at random.

Based on the comments given on some of the pictures I have lately gotten to believe that there are atleast 25% of the voters who do not understand the depth in the meaning of the picture. I really feel very sorry all those voters missing out on this wonderful sense of art.

My score just went up by about .3 on both fill the frame and in the garden but my number of votes didn't change...voter's remorse?

You've only entered two and your lowest is 5.3 - that's pretty good. Carry on that trend and you'll break 6 in no time. ;)

My score is plumetting by the second as well. Are people getting grumpy.
Lots of people don't seem to be 'getting' mine and not reading my title.
Since this is my first ever entry could someone shed some experience? - is it worth trying to interpret the theme in a different way or does it generally go over the heads of voters as they power through all the entries?
I'm sure there have been times when I've rated photos low because I didn't fully appreciate the interpretation.

I'm unhappy and disappointed, I looked the pictures related to garden. Too many subject is a bug with (or ?) _flower_, I think is not fair. I wanted to take the garden, without macro shot, if i knew i took a leaf with waterdrops only, that would have been easy...

I did'nt submit this photo...

30 votes and I'm just barely above 5... I think I'll lower my expectations for this challenge considering there are so many submissions this time. Sure some of them are boring, but I think I've seen several who look really good and creative.

Dracsay, if you are not a paid member of pbase you can't embed images (even thumbnails) here. You should just use the globe icon to insert links.

You'll get used to the fact that there a lot of traditional, sentimental, patriotic, religious types on this site. The winning entries are sometimes quite 'normal', although a lot are stunning. However most people do have an eye for quality. I've no idea what your image is, but take the view that if you've been wildy creative it may seem too wacky and if you've been too stylised in the execution it may be perceived as poor quality.

There have also been forums about titles, mainly with view that the image should not soley rely on a pun or wordplay to be understood. However, as in Trends, the title can be entirely relevant to someone who has no cultural knowledge of a given trend. You'll find that you learn a lot anyway.

I'd like to score higher too but if I'm not happy with my shot I won't submit one just to win votes. Good luck anyway - and it's all a bit of fun don't forget! ;)

Yep - my score is falling like a stone!

Within the last 4 votes I went from 6.82 to 6.2667!

Using a little maths and quick updating I know someone has given me a 1 already. :-(

C'est la vie!

best tip i know of:

avoid looking at score in the first 24 hours after voting starts, lol. it's just so unstable and almost always much higher initially than where it ends up!

ok, well, not strictly true. ive actually had a fair # go up! or even go down, THEN go up over the course of several days.

bottom line though: the score right at the beginning is rarely where it ends up ..

Thanks for your comments Jon.

Much appreciated.

And...yes it is just a bit of fun. I'm really enjoying seeing so many photos and having ideas.

Cheers

For my "garden entry", I stayed away from macro bugs. I even had my wife's scrapbooking group pick their favorite from the photos I had taken. By the way, none of them are invloved in DP. All in all, they thought is was a very nicely done photo and a couple of them were impressed enough to want a copy. But here I am with 37 votes, no comments and trying to hang onto a 5. At least I like the photo. That's what counts.

On the most part this is true but in the Round challenge my score jumped by 0.7 from where it started and then hovered there for the rest of the challenge.

From those that I have entered it is a record. I've been in most for over a year now.

csoka,
If you want to challenge yourself by adding extra restrictions onto the topic then feel free. For lots of people, however, it's challenging enough just to come up with a garden shot at all. We just couldn't make a flower the primary subject. Noone said that you couldn't take a macro shot, a bug shot, a leaf shot etc. With so many entries, there are often many with similar subjects, but what isn't fair is to penalize the photographer for having the same idea as someone else or for picking a subject that you might consider obvious or easy.
Just keep an open mind and enjoy each shot individually as I'm sure you'd want anyone to do with yours.

I wonder if my lack of comments are due to the high number of entries?
