Hi,

I have tried numerous online printing services to print my digital pictures from my Canon D60... I was wondering which ones you all have found to be the best quality and best value. I tried //www.dotphoto.com and found their prints to be very thin (even though they were printed on Kodak Paper...)the quality and sharpness of the actual print was perfect, but I just couldn't get over how paper thin the print was.

Any suggestions to point me in the right directon would be greatly apperciated!

Thanks!

Try DPCPrints.com

If you are not member than try Printroom.com but they are not as cheap!

If you are looking to print your own photos, try //www.ezprints.com.. I've been very happy with their results.

I have tried shutterfly.com and snapfish.com. Shutterfly had far superior quality prints, in fact, I was blown away. Nice paper and great color/sharpness.

Keep an eye for local guys too. I have a shop in town that I trust very well and they have spent a ton to upgrade their processors to all digital etc.... They have an in-store kiosk like Walmart now and will be online in October, a great time saver for me!

I've tried ofoto, shutterfly, photoaccess, and ezprints (equivalent to dpcprints). Ofoto sucked ass so you should avoid them like the plague. Shutterfly didn't deal with gamut issues very well. Photoaccess and ezprints were roughly equivalent (at viewing distance) but were also thrown by gamut issues (to a lesser extent than shutterfly).

Personally, I wasn't satisfied with any print from an online printer, but many other people seemed quite pleased with the results. It sounds like you'll give a bunch of them a try, which is the only way you'll know if you like the results. If you really care about the quality of your prints, stick to a local shop that understands all the technologies involved.

What's interesting to me is that an identical image printed at ezprints did not match the one printed at dpcprints. In fact, the side by side comparison did not favour well for dpcprints at all, being highly pixelated (even at viewing distance). Of course, ezprints was using kodak paper for their glossies then, but I seriously doubt that's all the difference.

I use Fujilab Internet Prints - no idea of site address as they give you a little program to download which sorts the whole process without yoor being on-line, and then just uploads the info for printing. Absolutely excellent so far, no complaints at all.

What have you found to be wrong with prints from Ofoto? They're the only online servuce I've used and the prints seem just fine to me.

At viewing distance: Colours casts were completely fubar'd (greens and yellows both took on red); edge highlights were exaggerated; highlight detail was lost.

On close inspection (by eye): high contrast edges were pixelated; background detail was lost in a strange "pixleated haze"; some highlights were oddly exaggerated.

For your dissemination here are scanned (only at 300dpi) prints (resized to 72dpi) of the exact same image (straight from camera with no modifications). Some issues should be evident from these thumbnails. You can click on an image for a larger (the 72dpi version...roughly 800x600).

So far I have been sticking to Dotphoto.com but I have recently been having problems with 8x10's getting bent in shipping due to the very thin cardboard protection they use. I was also disappointed by their 'canned' response to reprint the photos but they didn't address the issue of inadequate shipping protection. The quality is pretty good but that last 8x10 I ordered on matte paper was slightly overexposed. I need a service that prints matte prints at all sizes and so far I only found Dotphoto to be able to do that. Now I just read about ezprints.com in this forum and found that they also provide matte prints at all sizes so I am anxious to look into their site. Thanks for the tips.

Note that ezprints.com is the backend for dpcPrints too
