I just took this shot at our local general store (trying to finish up 26 things) and when I downloaded the pics, this is second of two (cropped to show the artifact better) I saw this strange ghost-like design. Anybody hazard a guess as to what it is/or might have been caused by?

It's either lens flare or someting on your lens causing it.

Bah, it's not lens flare. It's the Virgin Mary.

Well, the lens is clean, might have been some stray light, but these um folks were sitting right below. I thought they might have brought their own spirit critters with 'em.

good posibility its dust. i found this sort of thing out the first week i had my A70. I took a shot of my G/F sisters kids running about the house. when downloaded i saw a very similar "orb" in the photos. did lots of investigation and came to the conclusion its DUST.

try replicate it but stirring things up in your own home and take the shot. unless of course you have much better house keeping than I and have no dust....hmm quite a possibility.

basically caused by particle close to the lens/flash when the flash fires. does the same with rain/moisture too so ive seen. can happen if a drop of moisture is on the lens too.

check exif to see if flash fired i spose. if not then you can dismiss all i said coz then i dont know.

Yea otherwise it could be a ghost.

Yup, flash fired. I spaced that I'd used it in the AM for fill. Hmmm. Dust would be a likely villain, its very dry and 106(f) in the shade. Takes about 3 days for the dust to settle after a car drives by into the dirt parking lot. On the housekeeping bit, I'll bet my dust is deeper than yours! Fortunately, my dogs don't give a rat's @ss.

ive found these "orbs" can be a very annoying phenomenon of digital cameras. basically i think it has to do with them being so compact these days that the lens and flash are very close together. same thing that causes red-eye.
i took some photos of an indoor party (the house had a high ceiling therefore plenty room for dust) and tons of em showed up. ruined some good photos really. ive only had my camera like a month and am already considering an external flash.

Nope. This an alien craft. I've snapped one too - then it landed in my garden and I had a barbecue with the occupants, so don't let anyone tell you different.

Um, did you dine with the occupants or on them? 8-)

I always thought they looked kind of tough and chewy like calamari, but maybe with fava beans and a good Chianti...

A friend of mine has several pictures of him and his girlfriend with these strange orbs in them, and he has a video of himself playing guitar in his basement with the orbs flying around him like a disco ball. Some people do have spirit 'orbs' following them around. I also took a picture of my mother-in-law one christmas and a ghost appeared in it when i had it developed. I should try and get it scanned and post it here.

You are all totally off. This is obviously Glinda, the good witch, from The Wizard of Oz. You have your movie photo submission!

I've got a picture of myself with orbs all over. It was taken in the graveyard next to the grave of a friend. We took one seconds later, no orbs to be seen. I was visiting the grave with two 'sensitive' friends. One of said she could see and communicate with the spirits there. I was and remain as insensitive as a fence post.

This is what a ghost picture looks like. Or that's what people thought when I played this prank-gone-wrong on a ghost watcher site. Even when I told them it was a hoax they insisted it was real!

Too funny. The friend, who took the pic of me with all the orbs, still believes in Big Foot. She probably belongs to the same ghost watcher site. I'm not a disbeliever, just have yet to see anything convincing.

Don't even get me started on Bigfoot. When I was a kid growing up in north-central Michigan my Cub Scout Troop encountered two of them while fishing. Many other people saw them that summer and autumn, too. The investigation is still filed under the category of 'Class A credible' by the BFRO. Here is the link.

Thanks for the link! I forwarded it to my friend along with the lens flare pic which I know she'll enjoy. 8-)
