Or are there a number of seriously creepy photos in this challenge? lol
Granted, most of them are well done, but, quite a few may leave me in cold sweats tonight lol.
Or do I just need to bulk up for this place? lol. |

| There was one that was supposed to be the soul leaving the body. 1) I'd like to know how that guy did that without violating basic editing rules, 2) When I first saw it, I thought it was just homoerotic art. |

It's not just you...the current challenges have some of the worst entries I have seen. There are really no outstanding shots...except for painting with light, which I thought had several possible winners. The worse was the Comfort Challenge where there were so many poorly photographed cats and kids...eeek!

hey hotpasta...you said you had finished voting and that you have never seen so many bad photos in a challenge before..how about giving comments to those you voted down? I for one would like to find out why I am currently at a 4.4! Give us the benefit of your wisdom!
EDIT: actually I would love to find out why I am now at a 4.38! Good Grief!

Personally, I'm getting tired of seeing people's poorly photographed children and pets... Every challenge seems to be loaded with them. What are mediocre snapshots doing in a challenge?
As for the 'soul leaving the body' photo... I thought that was pretty clever. You could do a photo like that with a long exposure and two separate flashes. And it looked like the flash was repositioned for the second photo so the 'soul's' body faded away. Creepy, yes, but a good idea. Here's the link:

| You know, I am actually getting sick of people complaining about people entering poorly photographed children and pets. This is a learning site..is it not? If you want to see perfectly executed photographs, go to a site that only posts photos from professionals. We all start somewhere! I am pretty darn sure your first photographs were not ribbon quality. |

I don't think it's the quality of the image that's the problem (IMO anyway) but the content, lots of cute doggys and children gets a bit much when going through and voting them all. |

Just going out on a limb here, but...maybe it's people trying to LEARN!
Try not to forget that everyone isn't the photography expert that you apparently are. This site is all about learning. And not everyone has a gorgeous Icelandic model or landscape at their fingertips, so they use what they know and what they have - ie: their kids and their pets.
A lot of challenge photos are by people who are just starting to learn photography, and you've got to start somewhere; give them a break, and more importantly, give them a comment if you feel they need improvement.

I totally meant the painting with light entries lol. Sorry for the confusion. It was late, I'm on meds, 'nuff said ;)
Anyway, a few photos in the painting with light challenge truly creeped me the freak out lol. |

If so many of the "other" photos are so crappy, the almost perfect ones will place higher!!! ...
Some people have lives outside of photography.
That means we don't all have time to go to the desert and photograph a bird eating a corpse using the rule of thirds on a sunny day with dramatic shadows.
i can understand wanting to rate all the images and disliking 3/4 of them ... but that's thy there's an area for your comment.

| I didn't actually shoot my image w/this challenge in mind or else I would have done more w/my angle of the basket in the corner but when I entered it I saw it (which proves to me I have grown). Overall I am very happy w/my score even though it's a baby (not mine) but hey I got paid for shooting it too so that’s a plus. Personally I love a well shoot baby, pet, flower, scenic picture, or anything for that matter. I even enjoy the not so good images too and just love to learn. |

I feel that we are losing sight of the fact, that yes everyone must learn, but also every photographer should develop their own style and forget about the voters. whether they like it or not is it really so important! what is important is to improve your technical ability, stand by your creativity, even if you break a few rules along the way.
Do you want the challenges to become a place of just pretty landscapes or technically clever still lifes and illusions. Photography is about exploring all fields, be it flowers, children, pets or whatever until you find a style unique to yourself otherwise we would get a boring display of look alikes.
Sorry just my opinion!

i like to experiment ;)
though this was not taken specificly for duotones
i thought it was interesting enought to place well (and it did thankyou)
personlly i thought it was a poor capture (compared to some that i did later) but the shape was unique ..
and it's final score is about where i'd place it (not a 6 but better than 5.5)
one of the ways people learn is to see what other people do ...
so when you see a challenge title don't do the obvious, the more variety the better ..

Does not appear to be a problem on my monitor, but much can be covered up in a little 640 web graphic that shows up like a lighthouse beakon in a print.

Only a little creepy... :-) Actually, I rather liked those. I didn't vote in Duotones but when I saw the picture of Bear, I thought "wonder how many folks will figure out Kirbic took that?" Both gents did a great job on both pics, in my humble yet oft-ignored opinion. |
