I'm not french, so I can start this in an objective way.

I entered a picture of Paris in the deadly sins challenge and I got many negative comments (so there are many others behind that didn't left one) on the title I put. I'm not going to talk about the picture or the challenge here.

I referred to Paris as a wonderful city, world's envy and french pride. I live in Rome and I was born in Sicily, two of the most beautiful places in the world, but I love Paris and Barcellona, or San Francisco and London, New York City and many others.

Envy is "longing aroused by another's possessions, qualities" and it's a natural feeling when you see such beauties, even when you're used to many others.

Let me know your feeling, I'm just curious.

Love the world, love the people, love the differences since they are the quintessence of life.

Heres why I dislike France and most of Europe for that matter, I find the people to be rude and condescending. I live in China (im Canadian) and come across Europeans travelling very often, most of them are smug and arrogant, with the exception of Norway (Norwegians in my experience are usually pretty cool) and the French are the worst.

The nicest people I meet travelling are Americans, Canadians, and some Australians. I can't stand the European Union, I can't their politics, Canada was on a road to follow the EU with it's left wing liberal BS, thank God we have a new conservative Prime Minister. Basically Europe (with the exception of England) has been turned into a big weak joke. Pandering to Muslims and Homosexuals rather than standing up for whats right in this world.

I'm pretty appalled at some of the comments attached to this image.

All of the derogatory ones come from Nort America. Shame on you. You love your country and are not averse to telling the workld how great you are, let others celebrate theirs without insult too.

Not sure. Personally, France wouldn't be at the top of my list of places to see but there has been one place in France I'd like to see someday and that is Mont Saint Michel.

I'm English, and the English and French have a long rival history and many many jokes about each other, but I love France and lived there for 8 months. I live in Belgium now, but would love to retire to France one day.

I assume you are from New Zealand? Ok most Kiwis I have met have been really friendly people, as I too am friendly, but I ask you this: Have you ever dealt with French people???? There is a reason why the French have a reputation for being RUDE, it's because they are rude. I'm no nationalist, I live in China, I get along with people fairly well and am open to other cultures. The fact is I have yet to meet a French person I liked.

I spent the weekend before last in Paris. It is an amazing city. Not having been badly damaged in the last centuries' wars, it has a stunning quality of architecture, combined with aspects of French life of which I am very envious (the food, drink and atmosphere). I can only assume that the commenters in question have not visited the city (and probably not the country).

I also love France and I'm saddened that people felt the need to share their negativity about the country (as opposed to your image) with you in this way.

Whilst many North Americans may not appreciate France, many people who are not French admire and love much about France even while they may not love every aspect.

To suggest that only the French love France is ignorant, especially for one who professes to have travelled the world - perhaps one of those travellers who gravitates towards spending time only in the company of people who think just like him?

As for Dmachine's comment on the attitudes of travellers from different nations, I will not take the bait and join in but I will say that the stereotypes that I hear most often about different nationalities do not follow his opinions at all.

EDIT to add:

Many of the French in Paris can be quite rude BUT I find that citizens of most large cities can become that way, especially if they are faced often with visitors who don't learn the local language and are pretty arrogant themselves in expecting the world to function in English for them. Even in Paris I have only occasionally encountered slight rudeness. Outside of Paris (in France) I have never encountered rudeness and often encountered exceptional helpfulness and friendliness. Actually the city in which I encountered most rudeness was New York, though I also encountered many friendly inviduals there too.

And whats more the people of this world seem to be very comfortable making judgement calls against the USA and being down right derogatory proclaiming that it is evil, but as soon as someone makes a comment against a country other than the USA all the sudden it is poor taste.

Ask a French person what they think of North America. Ive heard plenty of French peoples opinions of North America, none of them good, sory but my opinion of France is the same.

Im not American by the way I am Canadian.

This is not a accusation, just a opinion, but I see more Americans on this site saying that the rest of the world think they're evil, fat and all the rest of it (perhaps 1 post every other day about it), but I don't think I've ever seen a single post where anybody has ever said these things about America.

That being said I appreciate the courage of the European press in printing those Muslim cartoons, something our North American press is too afraid to do.

You're crazy right? Please tell me you didn;t mean that. The cartoons were originaly published last summer, and people got upset, people apologised and it was all finished. Now these stupid papers re-publish it all again. Reall bad move, doesn't anybody respect other peoples faith anymore?

Theres no reason it should offend anyone. I just thought it was very unEuropean of the Europeans to print the cartoons. I have seen the cartoons myself and they aren't that bad. I think printing these cartoons that are getting so much press is the responsible thing for a news media outlet to do.

Dylan,

I reply to you, but this addressed to all the people that share your point-of-view.

I respect your opinion, but I want to tell you one single thing: don't fall into the trap of thinking that a nation or all the people that live there are like the few that you met in some occasions, there's much more. It is natural to think of a different culture as of something which is bad, but it isn't. France is a great country, with a great culture, with a long history. There is arrogant people there? Yes, of coure, but there is also in China or Japan, in the USA or in Canada, in Italy and in Norway.

The power comes from the complementarity of people and things, not from similarity.

The world is today in a difficult situation because some people manipulate the masses for personal or oligarchic interests.

In our little life we have to do our best to go against this way of thinking. It's the only way to go.

My two cents,

Silvestro.

There was a South Park recently that had the Mother Marry menstruating, I find this offensive, but if we have freedom of press it shouldn't only cover offending people Christian or Jewish faith.
