I didn't read the entire thread, because I don't have time, but I just thought that I'd throw my two cents in for fun. That sissy American kind of football is the most sought after sport in the world, its the most watched, and the biggest single sporting event in the world is the Superbowl, so jump on the wagon, its a beautiful thing, even if foreiners can't play yet. LOL.

whoops! don't think so!!!! Else we'd have the World Superbowl and we'd have every country playing it! How many people watch American football each week? I mean in the world? Or play each week at some level?

Never mind, after all we have cricket and tiddlywinks!! :))))))

Pauline dont forget the Rugby, now that is a world game with England being the WORLD CHAMPIONS and on their way to being the Six Nations Winners too.

Don't want to spark a riot but a reported in a national uk paper said (which I totally agree with) concerning Footballers and Rugby player.

Footballers spend 90 minutes pretending to be hurt
Rugby player spend 80 minutes pretending NOT to be hurt.

As a Rugby fan and player I have to agree.

Hmmmmmmm, world cup finals anyone!!!! I am not going to start on American Footy as I do quite like the sport, but its nowhere near as popular as the beautiful game, every nation in the world has a footy league and a national team, unlike American Footy where outside of America there are hardly any professional leagues etc.

Just because its the Superbowl is televised in so many hundred countries it doesn't mean that it was watched by the masses. I only know of about 4 or 5 people who watched the superbowl this year (myself included, its a great sport), whereas with the World Cup (and especially the Cup Final) everyone I know watches it. I reckon this would be the case throughout the world too.

Perhaps you should start an Egg Chasers forum post then, instead of posting on a Footy discussion. As for World Champs, they were lucky they brought their kicking game cause their running game was shit!

Also, as a Welshman, can I ask who won the last Grandslam in the 6 nations????????? LOL

Good to see that the CHelsea-bashing continues here too!! :(

Money does not by a team or results, just players. The acquisition of Jose Mourinho has blended them into a team. You only have to look at the preceding years under Claudio Ranieri to see last season's Championship win was a logical progression. The season before Chelsea finished second and reached the Champions League semi-final.

As for loyalty, Chelsea fans are very loyal having been with them through the lows as well as the highs. And, there have been many disappointing lows in the past 25 years!

I hate people who think Chelsea are an easy target because of what has happened to them!

Have to disagree with your rationale here, if Chelsea were without their corrupt, sugar daddy russian they would still be a mid table team. They have bought the title and anyone who aint a Chelski fan can see it. As for Mourinho, put him in charge of Bolton or Charlton or any other cash strapped side and then we can judge his ability!

Yeah right! Nothing to do with money you say? No £86.8 Million loss in 2003- 2004, No £140 million financial loss for the 2004-2005 season, No £175 Million spent on players within a 12 month period at my club. Managing to poach what is to be considered one of Europes best Managers must have been sheer luck. A crappy team for over 50 years suddenly turned champions when an oligarch turns up at their doorstep. Merely coincidence right?

Nothing at all to do with money?

;)

OK in 1867 my team was formed from the local cricket club as a way of keeping the cricket team together over the winter months. In 1882 the cricket and football team became independant and in 1887 the football team turned professional. In 1896 they won the FA Cup for the first time and last got to the final in 1966, the year England beat Germany in the World Cup final.

Anyone guessed yet?

....

Sheffield Wednesday of course ...... UP the OWLS!!!

I know I am the probably the newest guy around here, so I can't really get into alot of the conversations. HOWEVER!! I am a HUGE sports fan.
Someone has asked the questioin regarding why do they call it the "World Series". I do agree, that series is played by two American teams. This year, they are starting a tournament called the World Classic in which each player is allowed to play for his own country. Will be interesting to see which team pulls that out. My personal opinion is the Dominican Republic. Lots of talent on the roster! Am sure if more people in the respective countries were into the sport, and they had the teams that would pay these men the HUGE money that they make, players like Albert Pujols and Pedro Martinez would be playing for their own country.
Being a basketball fan as well.....What shall we even say about good ol' Yao Ming??
There is an old saying here in Texas about ya'lls version of football, or as we call it soccer....That is a sport for the boys not tough enough to play football, and for girls who are too ugly to be cheerleaders. Not necessarily my opinion...but thats the saying anyway!
But hell...what do I know...I am a Dallas Cowboys Fan!!

Have you seen how they try to break eachothers legs, give elbows, step on hands and legs, do some crouch grabbing, hair pulling etc in soccer games? The American Footballers wear a shitload of protection. Who's the sissy here? :)

Honestly, I think both sports are incredibly hard on bodies. There is a misconception about the protection that American Football players wear- #1 if it protected you so well there wouldn't be so many injuries #2 American Football is designed from the ground up to be an incredibly violent game. I played up into High School. I can't tell you how many times I was at the bottom of a pile and some guy would decide to take cheap shots on me.
Plus, ever been running full speed and suddenly slam into somebody weighing 215 pounds running in the opposite direction. It'll change your reality.

Well, Formula 1 is the most watched sport in the world, if you can call it a sport, it's an engine race with a sport twist to it... well, it's all a big roundabout for hours and hours, which I just totally don't get. I can at least see the interesting aspect of American football, but for me the greatest tv sports are NBA and tennis...

Yes I have actually, while playing rugby at what you could call 'high school'. :) I had better luck with boxing.
