You will soon : )

Fortunately "Goooooooaaaaaaaaalllll!!!!" is pronounced the same in both languages.

When we were watching the World Cup games, whenever a goal was made, we were always sure to immediatly flip the station to hear the Mexican announcer scream "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!" Because the American guy was just so lame about it.

Andres Cantor is one of the best football announcers EVER!!! Nobody can say GOOOOOAAAALLLLL longer than Andres. I definitely prefer to watch him call the games.

I know some of the English guys on this board can tell me what they call the EPL games where they broadcast two fans, each a fan of one of the teams playing, announcing the game. I think they do it on replays, but its a lot of fun to watch and listen to. Anyone know about this?

I guess you would consider my country as a third world country. However we managed to win something beside football BASKETBALL WORLD CHAMPION at that time running by the name Yugoslavia. And that happened in USA, the home of best basketball in the world(?).
Anyway, back to football, my favourite team is FC PARTIZAN.
I'm looking forward to world championship, I think my country is in the toughest group, with Argentina, Netherlands and Ivory Coast.
Anyway, it's gonna be fun

They have that fans commentating on most of the live games on Sky these day Rasdub. It is quite a laugh but you miss half the game cause your concentrating on what the fans are saying...tis funny though.

What do you make of that stadium I mentioned, looks real good doncha think?

Oh get a grip Deapee, the flagpole polish fumes have obviously gone to your head. Its fascinating to see how such a childish bit of banter about sport can anger a 24 year old man in such a way. Maybe a bit of loving, or some camomile tea, would do you wonders?

As for the diving and play acting issue, it's definatly getting to the point now where it's taking the Schmeichel. Robben against Liverpool the other week? Disgusting! Did anybody see the time when Robert Pires intentionaly hit Danny Mills in the stomach, and then started rolling around holding his hand? A true Classic! I personally would like to see far more bookings introduced for the dramatics. It would be interesting to hear our European brothers and sisters opinions on the diving issue. It seems that in Spanish, French, Italian football it is nothing more than a tactical part of the game.

So, anyway, American Handball..still crap really isn't it? :)

i didnt see that 'schwalbe' by Robben (who is a fantastic player) and personally i hate this 'sissie' behaviour all i know its not in our way (dutch football) to see it as as a tactical part of the game is out of the question and as far as i know referees are instructed by FIFA to punish this kind of behaviour so if it gets out of hand they are the first to blame

Arsenal fan for too many years to mention but lets say i remember super mac and charlie george... COUGH!!!

Over here in Japan (yes still here until 21st then i go home at long last) I have been a JEF United fan for 9 years and remember when they were a nothing team fighting relegation every year and had a turn out of around 2000 people now we sit firm in 3rd place and the support went up after we got the new stadium in Chiba to over 6000 still small compared to the big boys but we rule..

World cup tip - Portugal if they can keep their tempers and play as we know they can.

Well, here is a pic of my favorite player:

It was my little guy's first practice. :)

That said, I am a USA fan. I especially like watching the womens team play, but I also enjoy the men. I have played for over 20yrs now myself :)

Ajax Amsterdam, but I do not follow football anymore since 2000 or so. It seems to be more about player trading than football nowadays.
When watching a game I always support the team that most people present dislike, always good for some fun discussions. And I like it whent is is played rough (or maybe I should stick to watching K1, and other fightsports). :)

I look forward to the WC this summer. Deserted streets, that's when I go out roadracing my motorcycle.

So good to see a fun thread about the beautiful game! And for the record a Tottenham Hotspur fan through and through and an Oakland Raiders fan too (lived in LA in early 80's when the franchise was in LA and have felt an afinity ever since).

Now, what about a discussion about the real beautiful game - cricket?

Still really really mad about the decisions about Turkey...

Its about time that the diving issue was dealt with by FIFA/UEFA. It is just cheating as far as I am concerned. Would also like to see a bit of technology brought in too.

Giving the ref an opportunity to look at a penalty claim or a goal mouth clearance would take a few seconds at the most and would eliminate 90 percent of the dodgy decisions that ref's come up with........but then I'd miss all the banter about the ref being a crook LOL.

Don't mention cricket to me though, all those men in there whites rubbing the ball against thier crotch before bowling, summat a bit fruity there me thinks LOL.

Juventus here,
but recently I started wondering why I should support any team, since today soccer teams are for profit and not for sport.

This is a fair point Frederico. I do get the feeling that the big teams are milking their fans these days (poor old Man Utd fans have to buy 3 shirts a season - LOL). My dad used to take me to watch Liverpool when I was a nipper, but I rarely go now.

My little boy is 6 now and I really want to take him up for a game but the price is really steep once you factor in the travel and food etc. Strangely, I think Liverpool & ManYoo are amongst the cheapest as far as ticket prices go
02/17/2006 04:51:06 AM · #70
Ticket prices nowadays (And all the little extras) are absurd, especially for some of the away games. You can see its becoming quite the problem by looking at the stadiums during the matches. How do you counter it though? Players are demanding more and more money, transfer fees at times take the micky piss, fans expect to see big names during the Transfer windows, so where does the money come from to pay for all this? Should players wages be capped? Would this deter the big names entering the English game? It's certainly becoming an issue :(

On a side note it costs around £5.50 to watch a Marseille game.

Keep a weather eye on Liverpool forn a reason I can't explain - just always had a sneaking admiration for them.

Can't help sighing over Beckham - and I love his football - so tend to watch Real when I they are on Sky tv.

Actually I will watch any team on tv( except Chelsea!) if they are playing good football and I love internationals.

An Arsenal supporter eh? Not doing as good as expected this season. I really can't see Henry signing that contract based on current premiership performance. I guess signing that contract all depends on how you do in the champions league. I hope I'm proved wrong though and he does stay with Arsenal, hes a wonder to watch.

As for Chelsea...well...Money talks and all that. A team whos fans celebrate the acquisition of silverware through wealth rather than merit. I can't wait to see what happens when the sugar daddy ups and leaves.

Only just got back to this thread so sorry not replied earlier!

Yes Arsenal through and through. My grandfather used to watch them actually at Woolwich Arsenal ( about three miles from where I was born) before they moved to Highbury and he took my father and my father took me and so on!

Agree I think Henri will go ( great pity the man is a genius) but I also think Wenger will be off. There was an interesting article on the radio talking about how managers come to the end of their "shelf life" Thye players who have been there for a while fail to be enthused because they have heard it all before and although they play well they aren't quite so effective. The team starts to fade alittle, the results suffer and eventually a new manager comes in with new words, enthuses the team again, results improve and success follows for a period of years until, especially if the team members are fairly regular and long standing, the effect of the manager fades again and the whole process starts over. Obviously there are exceptions such as Fergueson, but it does fit a lot of club histories.

So I think Wenger will not be there in a year's time. They are not quite the team they were a season or so ago. Chelsea, I feel, are just a cheque book team who do not instill any sense of club loyalty. Mind you I wish there were more English players in Arsenal. How can we encourage these youngsters in England and nurture them if it is easier to whip out the money and buy in someone?

I support Liverpool, and after a decade of ManU owning the sport it is good to see some new faces on top of the league (although most of them are on the russian payroll). For some strange reason I can't seem to stand dutch footballers, I also can't stand Arsenal, Souness and a few selected characters. And also I support Germany in the World Cup. So there you have it, a strange mix indeed!

Dietmar Hamann for president ;)
