Is it me or do you have to have breast's to break into the top 5 of the nude challange? Not to take away from the winners but there were so many better other photo's and I"m not talking about mine either I"d like to see a breakdown of male, female vote's I bet if it was left up to women the winners would be different.

I was thinking that, too. I really hoped to see a couple of those men in the top rankings.

I would have to agree with you I only gave one of the three winners a high score. It isn't even so much as I think some of the photos of men should have done better, but I do feel that the scores were based more on sexual appeal than anything.

I actually was very disappointed that this photo didn't finish in the top 3 it was such a beautiful nude and most women (or at least ones with children) would recognize it for its absolute beauty.

Nice set up ,beautiful models ,just too much light on the hair.IMO.
More neutral light would work better here!

I disagree. I think the photos that finished highly weren't necessarily the best photos, but they were the photos that had the most professional feel with the cleanest and most effective technical execution. Those are the kinds of photos that win every week at DPC, so I don't see any difference for this week. The fact is, sexual appeal is part of nudity, therefore it is going to be a part of nude photos. I suppose this might have given photos featuring female models a little bit of an edge, but that's just how life goes.

Besides, now I get to take my 18th place finish and claim that I'm second place among shots with males in them and first place among shots with only males. = )

I think both themes of this thread are true, the winning shots certainly have sex appeal. So is the other thought that challenge winners usually have a 'marketable-ness' to them, i.e. they would probably be seen in contemporary ads of one sort or another. It is this i feel is a bit sad, that while yes the winning shots have mass appeal and will win ribbons (or money in the real world), I think often "real art" does not fall into marketability. Most famous artist have died poor and unknown because their creations were overlooked by their contemporaries. Unfortunately, we at DPC are no better in trying to find true art, but are willing to settle for reproductions of mass media.

I wouldn't exactly cheapen all the winners here to "reproductions of mass media", but I do agree with you for the most part. The fact is, art is never adequately chosen by popular opinon voting. I think here at dpc we need to accept that and not bother obscessing over scores and winners but instead take this site for what it is. It will never be perfect because all of us visiting will never be perfect, and we vote the pictures in. Different people value different things, so voting will always be split on what is art. The most universally likable pieces will win. And that's fine. They are often great pieces. I just hope all the individuals involved in DPC will stay primarily concerned with attempting to create art rather than a universally likable product.

Guilty as charged. I like women boobies a lot more than man boobies.

(blushing) Thank you. I don't know if some of the folks who made constructive commments went back to view after the voting, but I DO appreciate your suggestions. We're going to do another sitting and I intend to incorporate the hints given during the voting and privately as well.

I would have liked this one to be the winner: //dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=28282

This photo, by wingy, is very original and pretty good work...
(the 2nd place for male pics in the nude challenge :D )

Maybe it is to agressive in post progress and crop to score high on DPC?

I wonder...

Personally, being a man, I find that there are only 2 things in my life where sexual appeal is not a priority. They are 1) Work and 2) Any sporting event where they keep score (except tennis)

Why should DPC be different?

Okay, on a more serious note -
The photo you listed was good, but not of the quality of the typical winners on DPC. The lighting was harsh (which could've been burned) and the focus was pretty soft. If Kavamama would've used something like dreamy fx in PS7 (or something similar), I think she would've had a shot. You can make blurry shots look "soft" as if it were intentional.

Based on what you say, should we just vote on pure subjects? When I see a photo with harsh lighting and very soft, the first thing that comes to my mind is not "winner".

And I'm very sorry that you think that only women with children would see breastfeeding as a beautiful thing. I can't say I'm not a little offended by that statement. If you say were are all pigs and think about sex all the time, I can handle that. To imply that we are insensitive and cannot recognize beauty, that is uncalled for.
