My thoughts...

John Lock represents evil (the anti-christ if you will) and Mr. Eko (despite his past) represents good. In my opinion, this is depicted on many many different levels.

Black vs. White
Mundane past vs. "larger than life" past.
Both have strong knowledge of scripture and spirituality
Both are strong leaders

Each man has come to his own epiphany while stranded on the island and both realize their part in the greater scheme. They are the only ones who do seem to have any insight whatsoever into the crisis facing all of them.

Lock has thrown off his mundane existence to become a powerful presence that will ultimately become evil.

Mr. Eko has thrown off his "soul-less" past to embrace his true good nature and ultimately the spiritual leader of the group.

Just my opinion...

Locke's not evil, he's awesome! (my opinion anyway)

"Don't tell me what I can't do!"

I must say I was disappointed with yesterday's episode though. It didn't answer any questions, didn't have really any suspensful moments, no cliffhanger, and I didn't think that Charlie's backstory was really all that relevant to the action.

At first I would've agreed, but something about his character has never sat right with me. Isn't that the true nature of evil... first to gain your trust?

Mr Echo adds a third dimension to the opposition of Locke and Jack. Jack represents science. Locke represents philosophy and now Echo represents religion.

I think you will see themes which play one off each other. I also think the show has no "good" and "evil" characters (other then The Others). Each person is a complex mishmash of both. The most easily "good" character is probably Hurley, and he could be considered naive. All the other characters have strong flaws, which is what makes them interesting.

I beg to differ. Locke may in fact be very philosophical, but early on he showed strong spirituality and knowledge of scripture. In essence he was the spiritual leader of the group prior to Mr. Eko's arrival.

Jack on the other hand represents Pride to me. It's his pride that has driven him from the very beginning and his feeling that he can "save everyone" He has only recently come to grips with this tragic flaw and I have a feeling it will continue to play a large role in who he is. Science has very little to do with it.

Ugh, my wife makes me watch this tripe every week. I have no patience for a series of this style. It seems to be based mostly on character development and I don't find the characters very interesting.

The story is good, but would fit easily into a single 90 minute episode. The writers can't answer the questions to the story, because as soon as they do, the series is finished, (which I find simply annoying). So the writers are stuck with a series about the characters alone.

IMO, the writers didn't expect this series to do well, and have been caught in its success. Because they don't want to let a good thing go, they'll be answering as few questions as possible.

Gilligan's Island is far superior to Lost.

Just my opinion. Of course, I'm an action-flick fan with an IQ under 70.

Oh, and who else noticed that Charlie's "FATE" bandages were missing from his hand at the end of last night's episode?

I think it was pretty evil of Locke to save those drugs in the safe.

I agree and disagree. Locke was the most religious character before, but only in a "New Age" sort of way. He has lately made comments hinting that he doesn't really believe in "God"; at least not nearly as much as he believes in "The Island". Philosophy deals with things outside the realm of science. Certainly Destiny, Fate, etc. fall in that category. His name, John Locke, couldn't be much more obvious. However, "religion" deals with a structured system involving "God". Locke doesn't demonstrate structure at all. Echo (or Eko) now does (but we didn't have him before).

I will bet you will see Eko and Locke butt heads more than they agree.

Jack is where I really disagree. While I certainly agree his flaw is Pride (or control), I still think he represents a Man of Science. He stoutly refuses to believe anything outside that realm. There is no Destiny or Fate. It isn't his Pride that threw him for a loop when he met Desmond, it was Science which could not allow him to understand their meeting.

Of course the writers could just be hopped up on wacky tabacky and none of this means anything...

I am not sure what Charlie and the baby bit was about. Charlie's backstorey was kind of pointless to a large degree I think. But since we have most everyones we need his too.

I liked Mr Ecko's backstory. He is my favorite character.

WTF was that black cloud in last week's episode?

Very true, but wasn't it his pride that he struggled with so much when they were captured by The Others in last weeks episode (and continues to struggle with). He has seen many things on the island that defy "scientific rationalization" and in some sense is becoming a "believer".

Opinions vary... my thought is that it was death. Mr. Eko has no fear of death, therefore, it didn't take him. In fact he was able to stare into the face of death and defy it. (My theory, yet to be proven)

I always saw:
Jack is Science and Logic
Locke is faith and perseverance
Mr. Ecko is spirituality and redemption

I think Charlies backstory to was there show why Claires exile of him was so devasting. He was losing yet another family. Just my opinion

This was a great episode...and Locke is not evil, haven't you seen any of his backstory???. Locke and Eko are both awesome characters.

As a matter of fact yes I have... What better reason to break bad than to be abandoned by your father, used for a kidney, then abandoned again!

I agree!
I have a feeling he is going to set charlie up or something. Why else would he keep them?

There is something definitely going on with Locke. I used to like him because he seemed like he just wanted to help in his own way, but lately he seems to be on some sort of power trip... telling people what to do and whatnot... seems like ever since the incident with Boone he's just been realllly strange

And the writers definitely didnt plan on the shows successes and the episodes arent as good as the first season, but TV programs just suck and this is the best I have to watch.
