Our last get-together was in August... that's almost six months ago now! It's high time the members of DPC in the San Francisco area got another chance to meet and discuss and shoot together!

The date is tentative, and the location is undetermined.

Here are a few ideas for location-

Point Lobos - Most beautiful part of the coastline within 100 miles of San Francisco, if you ask me. Great rock formations and a good amount of wildlife, plenty of good hiking trails. Only real issue is that it's near Carmel, and would be quite a journey for the SF/East/North Bay folks.

Mount Tamalpais - Never been there myself, but I hear there are great views. Opposite problem from Point Lobos - long journey for the South Bay folks.

Mount Diablo - This was the location of the first SF Bay Area GTG, and it was quite pleasant. It has the advantages of being both beautiful and a fairly accessible location from all points in the Bay Area.

Castle Rock - A favorite stomping ground of mine in the Santa Cruz Mountains. There are some easy loop trails that would lend themselves well to a leisurely walk. Very green and moist, and lots of flowing water. Somewhat of a drive for the more northerly folks.

Coyote Hills - This is just about the most central spot I can think of, near the border of Union City and Fremont. Paved easy trails make large parts of the park accessible, interesting views of the South Bay, and also an unusual boardwalk through the marshlands.

... this list is of course not exhaustive, and any and all suggestions are quite welcome.

I hope you'll be able to join us!

Damon - have you been reading my newsletter again? (Color News, Photochrome )Naw, you couldn't have. It hasn't been posted yet on our website.
;>)
On February 11 I am suggesting (in the Color News) the prime Photo Op as follows:

Chinese New Year Parade
Saturday, February 11, 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m., RAIN or SHINE It’s the Year of the Dog and highlights include elaborately decorated floats, school marching bands, martial arts group, stilt walkers, lion dancers, Chinese acrobatics, the newly crowned Miss Chinatown U.S.A. and the Golden Dragon ("Gum Lung"). The parade starts at Second and Market streets and ends at Kearny and Jackson streets.

Chinese Community Street Fair
Saturday, February 11, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Sunday, February 12, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Chinese cultural arts such as kite and lantern making, fine arts demonstrations, folk dance and puppet shows. Grant Avenue, from California to Broadway, and on Pacific Avenue from Kearny to Stockton.

I am looking forward to at least doing the Street Fair, getting there early and staying as long as I last. I expect the hardier of our DPCers could last through the Parade, thus getting some fabulous images.

The logistics of meeting up would be awful. But it could work.

Anyone else think this could be a Plan?

Alice

I will definitely try to make it to the Chinese New Year Parade. Many beautiful bright colors make for a great photo op.

Keep me posted on the date you guys decide on for the other one. I'm totally in for a group outing and I'd love to meet the rest of the Bay Area folks. I just joined DPC a month ago based on Rikki's recommendation. So far, so good :)

Looks like we've got four on the boat so far - this is great. Alice, definitely it looks like Chinatown is going to be the place to be on Feb. 11.

Where would be a good place to meet up that's close to Chinatown, but not in the middle of the chaos?

Damon

P.S. Anyone who wants to be on the SF DPC mailing list, send a message to sfdpc-subscribe@yahoo.com. This list is used primarily to alert people to active GTG threads in the DPC forum.

Damon, I knew you were going to ask that question. (Where to meet). Frankly I don't know. I can scout around this weekend and perhaps some of our other San Francisco people can suggest locations as well.

It's probably best to meet at the "bankers heart" at the corner of California and Kearny.

A couple block walk to Chi-town ;)

Good Idea, Rikki. That big black hunk of sculpture in front of the B of A bldg. Any thoughts on time? The Street Fair opens at 10:00 am...

This is turning out to be a real Plan! And if we meet at the base of the "Banker's Heart" all that is necessary is to check out camera people. It would be nice to have a real get together this time!

That was my thought too ... too crowded, too stressful, no good camera for the purpose.

When the weather warms up, Angel Island would be another good (though a little expensive) destination.

Maybe we can shoot for Singled Out II :P

Hehe, it's terrifying enough meeting a few people I know I share a common interest, let alone braving the hordes of people sure to be flooding the streets of SF...

I mean, I used to live there... *shudder* I know what it's like. ;)
