Perhaps this is intended behavior, but the randomization of the order of photos seems overly agressive. I am tweaking votes on all the "Best of 2005" photos, and I noticed that each step through the thumbnail pages re-orders the photos. Thus, it can easily be the case that photos on the previous page show up again on the next page (if their score category spans those two pages). This behavior is of course more obvious when viewing photos restricted to a certain score. It is probably the case that some photos will have the bad luck of happening not to show up on any page as one steps through the pages.

I think that some randomization is great to remove any bias in the voting process, but this agressive behavior is making it difficult to make sure that I am fairly giving every photo a second chance. Can this behavior be changed?

I know it takes a little longer to load but I think its in your preferences you can change how many photos are displayed on a voting page, that helps me keep everything in perspective.

edit: Im sorry, its how many rows per page are displayed, bottom right of preferences, I have mine set at 100 and can always see every photo, it helps me see what everything is after Iv voted and want to go back through.

When I do this my browser will timeout trying to retrieve all of the thumbnails leaving a bunch of little red "x".

In a challenge with over 800 entries it is still hard to see every one even with the maximum display capabilities. The only way I see to do it is to click on your first thumbnail and then go through the voting procedure all over again or press the right arrow to scroll through them one at a time.

It was definitely not the intended behavior and was one of the reasons I made the tweaks to the original system. Somehow it managed to rear it's ugly head again, and somehow I managed to fixed it again. :)

Ah, wonderful! I will actually probably stick with viewing all the photos at once, since, as Kivet said, it helps keep everything in perspective (something I did not really appreciate until this bug forced me to!). But it's good to know that if I'm on a slower connection, I can fall back to the old way.

When I review the photos I've already voted on for a possible bump, I start at the first photo displayed in the group and click on the number I want it at. For example, if I review the 6's for bumps, then I start at the first one. As I look and review each one, I either click on the six again or a higher or lower number. The site goes through all the 6's until I get to the fives.

I then move to the 7's, then 8's and so on.

If I gave it less then a five in the first round then I don't look at it again.

Just the way I do it.
