When I fly I do one of 2 things - sleep or take pictures out the window. I normally end up landing with 500+ pics from the air.

This is by no means my "best" shot but it's one I like and it was already edited on my HD...

What do you got?

Over the Rockies from JFK to Van Nyes

I always fly with a camera - too many sights that you just can't get from the ground.

Great pictures everyone, I love stuff from this vantage point :)

I always have trouble with plane windows though. From certain angles I get kind of a purple or rainbow effect on the glass. Anyone have any tricks for avoiding that (aside from choosing a different angle)

Hmmm... The ones I posted came stright out of my old P&S. I haven't had a lot of trouble with strange effects like you're mentioning. Only advice I can offer is this: shooting into the sun through the window will create/compound the problem - try to shoot out the side of the plane facing away from the sun.

And don't be afraid to crawl over other passengers to get to the window ;)

Here's an example - notice the purple streaks on the left side...

This was taken about five minutes after take-off from Santa Barbara. I love to take pictures from airplanes and usually request the window seat. I haven't flown with my 20d yet, but the little PowerShot S60 used to get a real workout between Santa Barbara and Phoenix.

I see what you mean...looks like glare off the window. Circular Polarizer, maybe?

Cool - found another one.

(dug through a myriad of recovered files from I never
organized from a failed hard drive - 5,000+ pics...)
