I got three questions for ya.

So I'm finally thinking about making myself a website, any advice? I was thinking frontpage, cause I suck at HTML, and what flash program should I use if I want to make those cool effects and all?

A name for the domain (I choose the domain, no problem there), rengimmutevellioglu.com is just way too long and hard, I thought rengimm.com or rengim.com. What do you guys say?

And show me some photography websites, it could be yours, it could be those you bookmarked, just so I can get inspired with the layout. And discover photographers :)

I use Dreamweaver, have done for years. FrontPage has some odd quirks it puts in the code, although I haven't used it for a long time. As for good web sites for inspiration? You got one of the best here.

i am getting use to dreamweaver, for now I am using smugmug for my website, since I am a graphic designer I know the and love the design part but I am having the hardest time figuring out dreamweaver whole web thing (putting together a website) is like another language to me. Right now I say dreamweaver seems like the easier one so far, I just got some books and learning it myself. So I can design one.

I'm using Adobe Golive for a couple of years now, I think it's just what you're used to; can't seem to get used to dreamweaver or Frontpage.

Dreamweaver is an excellent application. That's the one I use. Flash is a separate program and interface altogether. If you're unfamiliar with Flash, I would recommend against it initially. There is a trend moving away from flash anyway because it requires a plug-in (among other reasons). Generally speaking, the simpler the site, the better. My site is a flash only interface with a php/mysql back-end. The effects are cool and all, but it's kind of a bandwith hog and the effects don't always work the same on every browser, plus you have to have the plug-in.

For starters you could use frontpage as it is cheaper than dreamweaver.

For now that you are just begining I would stay away from flash. Just make a simple site using an editor and if you have photoshop it has a gallery making feature in it.

Since you're a beginner at web design... I'm going to have to say go with Frontpage. It's a fairly simple program and if you've used Word or other MS programs, you'll be fairly familiar with the interface from the start.

Dreamweaver is an awesome program. I use it exclusively, but it's costly and quite a bit intimidating for the first time designer.

Another alternative is to use a content manager or blog setup. Depending on if your host supports PHP/MySQL.. a web log system or CMS is fairly easy to install and customize.

My photography site is based on the Serendipity (S9y) web log package. I used it because it was easy to keep updated, easy to customize and well ... search engines LOVE blogs nowadays.

Depending on your needs I would suggest installing a script. If you just need a photo gallery take a look at Coppermine //coppermine.sf.net but if you need a bit more like a forum or news take a look at xoops //www.xoops.org I'd be happy to help with any questions if you need it, just pm me. I am a moderator on //www.xoops.org and have many years experience with the system.

My 2 Cents...
I've used Dreamweaver for the past 6 years after using early versions of both Adobe and M$ products. I wouldn't go back but that's preference.
Any wysiwyg html editor these days is pretty good, especially for someone just starting out because it is pretty simple.
As for Flash, sorry soup, but it's anything but ont a downward anything. It's been a plug-in that has had a plus 90% usage rate on ALL browsers so the plugin factor isn't really an issue. Nor has it been for the past 5 years or more.

Ennil, to answer you two questions, domain name, keep it something that people will remember. Mine is simply www.dunsmoor.net.
As for samples, there are lots of good ones here to check out. There are also a ton of pre-built sites for photo galleries out there. www.hotscripts.com has a bunch, some pay, some free. www.aspin.com also has lots.
My personal site is overly simplified as it's mostly just been for me to share with a few friends and family. I've been looking to change that and make it a site but haven't had time nor have a found anything pre-built I'd use. I'm likely to make my own.

Go to macromedia.com. They have showcases for all their softwares, with websites, databases, flash animations etc created by their software suits. You will find many good websites there, all made in Dreamweaver.

I would second something like coppermine (there are a lot of similars out there) if it's for photos. A number of hosting sites can install this as part of the deal - then it's just setting up galleries e.t.c. as you like. If you get more into it, they can be customised.

If it's more of a web-site thing then IF you can get Dreamweaver cheap (student version) or are interested in web-design then it's the best but can be intimidating - just start with it's templates. The full price is pretty step, so front-page would be an alternative.

If it's REALLY simple then maybe word save as html is enough? There are also a lot of online site-builder type of things that can be ok for simple stuff.

Thank you very much. I think I'm gonna go with dreamweaver. I don't want a simple, you know pre-build gallery. I want a serious professional looking website to present to professional looking people.

I am currently making one in frontpage, and it was looking quite good, but there just a lot of things missing and i just want to break the computer. I can get Dreamweaver, in a month or so. And if it's too difficult I can as easily get help, but I'm young, I think I can manage :P.

The problem with Flash is not that people don't have the plugin, it is more that sites done entirely in Flash are at a severe disadvantage when it comes to search engines. You will never get the ranking on google with a Flash site that you would get with a HTML site. Search engines just can't pull the information from flash as well as it can from HTML. This has been one of the reasons I have taken so long with getting my new site up. The past two versions of my site have been all Flash and I started building a third version in Flash but have been uncertain if I want to finish it as is because I want to try and start gearing it in a direction that it can actually help me make some money. Another disadvantage to total flash sites is that they are not always the easiest things to update with new content (at least in comparison to HTML or any dynamic programming languages).

I do work as a web designer and I have started to lean more towards partial use of flash. You sacrifice the ability to have a completely interactive interface to have a limited number of elements that are done in Flash.

As far as programs to use... I use Dreamweaver. I don't really know how well Golive has evolved as I quit using it about five years ago. I also don't really know anything about frontpage since I never used it. I believe Frontpage would be considered the worst option though. Of course for a beginer it may be fine. An advantage to Dreamwever is it will allow you to expand into much more complicated stuff later on as it is a very good interface for programming dynamic pages.

Here is one website that I did for a local photographer that was completely in Flash: //www.raybaldino.com
(i'm providing that one for the site design...not the photography...)

A website of a photographer that I think you may like (if you don't already know) is: //www.lithiumpicnic.com

His site is fairly well designed and has some nice dynamic functions like the ability for users to comment on photos.

I love the first one, very elegant, very fun. But when I said I didn't want it simple, I didn't mean that hard. It looks way too complicated.

As for Lithuim, I do know the site and the photographer (am a big fan) but I don't like the design. It lacks elegancy, and the ability to have comments on your pictures doesn't do much for me since I'm already an active member of five photography community, I get the comments I need in four different languages :)

This is where I am strugling with my site design. I really like the interactivity and design of what I currently am working on but am not sure if I want to sacrifice design for function. His site is fairly bland but it is easy to use and that has its advantages.

Oh well, I will probably finish what I started...I need to at least get something back up on my URL.

I do actually have a test of the very basic interface for my new site up. This was an early version that has some resize bugs (may need to adjust the window size to get it to resize) and it also needs to have the image sizes brought down (I developed it on a 21" monitor and over estimated the size for smaller screen). OK, keep in mind this is really only an example of the basic site layout and way the gallery will be navigated... //www.fadedbeauty.com/old-site2/test.htm

You can have a look at mine if you like. I use Adobe GoLive.

For a while, I used SimpleViewer to present the photo galleries, but then I discovered that not everyone could see them in their browsers, so I just use Photoshop to generate the galleries using my own custom templates.

Very cool animation - really like the photos you chose for it - conveys "faded beauty" very well. I'm confused - all I saw was the animation. No navigation links? Did I miss something?

thats what I was saying about that not resizing. The links (which don't work right now anyways) are at the bottom and because that version of it doesn't refresh on loading the bottom stuff doesn't get repositioned where it is supposed to be. Still very much a work in progress with still quite a bit of work yet to be done.

Best idea for a photo website is Flash. You can deliver your photos, while protecting them a bit more. A bit more learning curve though..
