very well said.

They have pretzels in Korea? jejeje™ I'd have thought "Crying in my kimchi" maybe...

Hang in there Doc! There's always "Best of January" to shoot for!

Did you submit? I pulled mine at the last hour. I have only voted on 20%.

I had done my initial sort, and then the sorting of my top photographs (which is most of them!). I generally do that sort by another sort 6-10, and then go through each group to make sure they're consistent.

I then found that, because of having so many very high quality images and some that I found were just outstanding, that many really good photographs were ending up with 7's from me, where they normally would be 8's or 9's. So, I'm just going to go through & bump every 7, 8 & 9 up one point. Then I'll go through the 6's again & bump about half up to a 7.

So, from this voter at least, you should get a tiny bump soon!

I can't believe the score I'm getting. I'm in the 4.9 range and its not just a point and shoot type of photo. I have voted on about 100 photos so far. Granted, there are some wonderful photos but I don't think mind is deserving of the score its getting. Maybe I'm bias but, I'm so disappointed. Like I said before, I think if there are 800+ photos, that many votes should be given. Its only fair.

CONSIDERING THIS IS A "BEST OF 2005", I'm a bit disappointed. Yeah there are a couple dozen really outstanding shots. Amazing shots, actually!!! But then there are about 300 or so, that are really mediocre to poor. A lot of similiar shots, which always tends to turn me off. That's just my opinion though, considering these are the best shot of the year by everyone.

I will also say, that I have never scored so many "10's and 9's". Lots of them, actually. Some incredible images in this challenge.

The Best of 2005 challenge just proves to me that you have to select an image for a particular audience.

My entry has won honours outside DPC in local, regional and national exhibitions, but is attracting only a 5.9 here on DPC. I am not complaining because I knew it was not a DPC style image, but I considered it my very best image of the year.

There are many, many images in this challenge which are outstanding but don't match the DPC formula and will be 'skipped' over by the majority of voters which is a real shame.

I would personally like to congratulate everyone who submitted, all the images deserve recognition whether they are DPC focussed or not.

Great work everyone

Now would be a good time.

I am so proud of you all..... I have just commented on 300 images so far in two nights, and plan to do exactly what I said I would do. Yes, I am going to comment on each and every photo, as each and every one of you deserve that respect.....

I only have 535 left to comment on.....................................

Got your comment sherpet, much appreciated.

If you get a comment from me, do not get offended by whatever is in the first line. When commenting on THIS MANY photos, I need something to keep my mind moving. So the first comment is just a bit of humor or story line to keep my mind going and to break the continuous "click click" string. I am going to try to comment on all photos. The next section will have something more serious regarding the photo. If you get offended, step back, and realize...its nothing personal, just humor!! (or a snippet, depending on the photo)

That is all...back to commenting

Got yours sherpet, thank you! That's a very ambitious (and generous) plan.

Your worth it, I just can't wait for the time I can see the comments with the photos with photographer.....

I get so excited when deadlines date come around, and can't wait to see the images with the approprate photographers name, so that I can put many more favorites into my favorites.

I'm trying to figure out the no comments. I'm actually happy with my score considering the competition (yes, a photo should stand on its own...) but I just don't get the no comments.
Sherpa, can you do mine next? I'm starving for feedback!
Heheh...

I've scratched back to a 5.9000. I, too, have an image which I thought may not do as well as I had hoped (read non-landscape). I think in 2 weeks I can climb over a 6, but that will still bury me in the low 200s somewhere.

OTOH, I had to laugh as I went in thinking this wasn't quite a typical image. One of my two comments asked me to "branch out 'cuz we've seen this shot too many times" (paraphrase). C'est la vie.

I also believe that there are many DPC friendly images that normally would have definitely scored 6.3's to 6.8's that are being judged more stringently since people have seen these exact style all before. They are being pushed downward due to the expectations of this particular competition.

So, typical well scoring images might seem a little "ho hum" given the fact that this is a Years Best Free Study.

No rules except advanced editing..."hit me with your best shot!"

My first ever entry. I also did NO post processing to simply see what it would have done. Guess I will be very happy with this score then. 4 of the 5 comments that I got indicated it needed more contrast. An easy fix IF I had post processed..

Sherpet, I got your comment and Thank YOU.
