Oh, and to boost everyone else's spirits, I wanted to say that I vote in rounds. After everything is sorted into roughly the score range I like, I go back and bump or dump accordingly - with MUCH more bumping than dumping. I give LOTS of 6's that turn into 7-9s, so chin up ...maybe others are doing this too.

I've seen so many great images in this challenge so far, it's really hard to argue that mine is really in competition for real but....

Thant being said I was kind of hoping for a personal best. Since that would only have to be a 6.02, that's not really asking ver much now is it?

::sigh::

I guess I'm doing decent with my image considering I remembered to enter just an hour or so before the deadline, and I used a picture that I took just hours after getting my new camera.

As of the time of this post I have:
Votes: 55
Views: 71
Avg Vote: 4.7091

It seems to be slowly going up, I started around a 4.1 shortly after voting began.

Good luck to everyone who entered.

4.8+

Bummer, I had hope this would at least go over 5.0, if not the mid-5's.

*blargh*

And I know my sign entry won't do well but I like it. So there... :P

Yeah, I've never had one of those sexy sevens before and just the thought ....

BTW - I vote much as you say you do so there are likely to be be many bumps from me.

I almost entered a December 31st image but a December 17th image beat it out in my mind by a hair. I have one shot from before I got the 20D, but it was posted and commented upon in the forums and I decided to go "fresh"; besides, I'm damned if I want to label as my "best" a P&S shot and negate all that money I spent :-) I also have a shot I absolutely love that I'm quite certain would not appeal to the voters, so I reluctantly gave that one a pass.

Huff..puff...weeze...
I dont even have a photo in this challenge, but I will vote 100% before I am done. Some GREAT images in there. Didnt really shoot anything worthy in 2005, but 2006..oh yes...it will be mine.

Ok, back to the other 500 images awaiting rating....

Ooof. Good work Karen. I just passed 51%.

I got really excited a couple of hours ago when my personal entry got up as high as 5.8, nearly 5.9... I thought I might actually get as high as a six this go round.

My photographer neighbor/friend came up and had these sage words for me "People pictures are great - but usually only for those in the picture. Just try and sell wedding pictures to those not in their immediate family and you will know how little they matter to others."

It's been my mantra as I've watched my vote go from the 4's up and now back down to the 5.5's.

Oh well, I tried. It will be easy for me to get a personal best in this one as I really can't get worse ;).

What blows me away is the amazing number of amazing pics!

Last time I voted on a challenge, it was mucking through the mire, with a handful of gems. I think my average vote cast is close to 8 in this one. OK, maybe not, but it sure feels like it.

Wow. Nice stuff DPC'ers.

As a result of staying up WAY too late last night, and ignoring all of my responsibilities today, I have finally finished my first pass.

Now I need to go through and fine tune and comment.

That said, there is one image that stands head and shoulders above the rest for me. Sadly, I doubt it is likely to do as well as I would like. It's tempting to head over to DPC chat and start campaigning for it, but I will resist the urge.
01/16/2006 02:31:01 PM · #163
Holy smokes, it just took me an hour to vote on 12 of them!?!?!?

01/16/2006 02:36:11 PM · #164
ummm we dont discuss or campaign for any photos other than one we may be workign on for a client.. but not challenges... in DPC Fanatics, sorry So thanks for resisting the urge :)

It's been years really since I've been active over there (or even here) so perhaps that has changed.

Yeah, I rated 23 and gave 11 comments in the last hour. But I decided to give this challenge more time so I'll be working through it as time permits.

Back in the game after a mini break.
Went to bed at 7 even. Woke up to a 6.5. Now holding in the 6.4s.

HUH???
standards are different from competition to competition, as are the judges. Just because am image has done well at one renue does not mean it should be recieved the same at all of them. But what does children pics have to do with anything?

You guys who compare votes during the voting period... you gonna keep this up for the whole two week extended voting period? 6 pages already after 13 hours -- wow, this is going to be a lonnnnng thread :)

So many great photos here!

I've voted 53% of the entries ... and I'm beginning to conclude 2005 was the year of the cat. Or the year of the homeless. No, wait, it's the year of tranquility ... no serenity. No ...

Damn, its the year of a hell of a lot of photos!!!
