I am surprised as to how many photos are recognizeable - meaning seen before or so similar that you know exactly who took it.
Mine is tanking. Not the usual kind of photo I enter in challenges. Never posted anywhere and was really a hard decision for me to choose. sitting around a 4.5...really thought it was at least worth a 5 to 5.5 |

With 800+ images, surely you don't expect a 7.0 at this stage? A lot of voting is yet to be done. I just got done voting myself, and think I have a pretty even spread that happened between 10's all the way to 3's.
And no, I don't judge one photo from the last. I just take each one and do as usual when voting. Lots of good stuff for 2005, but also, in my opinion, lots of thrown in images as well. I did expect more of one particular category though, but was happy to see more of another category I also liked.
It's all subjective. A crap shoot, if you will, when there are SO many entries. Most I have seen since I joined. And out of a whole years worth of photos to choose from? Yeah, its a long voting period for some.
I had only taken photos for about 3 months prior to the end of 2005. Had lots of choices, but not compared to others. So I just chose one I thought would be appealing on at least a few levels. I'm not disappointed it is middle of the road 5.0 at this stage of the game.

BTW! If you got a 10 or a 9 from me, I will comment that I gave you that. If not, don't fret :( You could very well be one of my MANY 8's and 7's.

I hope I don't get slammed for this, but here it goes:
Maybe my expectation was high. But this is the best of 2005 so I'm not sure. I can tell you though, I am not a 'mainstream voter.' There are lots of pretty pictures in this challenge. There are lots of technically proficient pictures in this challenge. These will score a 5-6 from me. Why? I'm looking for images that have a reason. They share something with me either about the subject or the photographer. The photo doesn't have to say, "Wow! Look at me." But it does need to say something. Maybe I just want too much. I want to be touched in some way by a scene, a subject, a point of view, a story. I want to know that the photographer wanted to share something, anything, more than 'look at my pretty picture.'
At any rate, there are some beautiful images in this challenge. Only one can win (nope, not mine). Remember that the votes are tied to the challenge itself and not a reflection of the artistic merit of an image.

Since I have never finished above 6.0 I am not disappointed so far. Of course there is an awfully long way to go.

I entered my very first challenge....didn't do any post editing as I want to simply see what it will do....Should I be happy or sad as of yet???

I've seen a couple comments about "newbies" posting pics and the quality of the "Best of" not being what it should be. I may be one of the "newbies" in the real sense in that I've only been serious about my photography for about 6 months. Before that it really was hit and miss. I entered what I felt was one of my few hits with a crappy camera. Have a new camera now. Better aim

Don't worry, it's still too early in the voting to be either yet. Scores usually stabilize around a hundred votes or so in a regular challenge, but who knows with this challenge. You could get a slew of higher votes that will shoot your score up a bit. Keep your head up and good luck. |

That's exactly what I'm doing now. I'm just crushed by my score. I love my photo and its the best I have ever done. Hard to believe that something that is so unique, getting such a low score. There had better be as many votes as there are photo submitted. I think that only fair. |

Same here. 7.87 at bedtime last night.
6.35 right now. :(
'Course, I said I only wanted to best my best score, but once you see that nice shiny 7.x, sinking is the pits.
