While going through the profiles today, I noticed that there were a ton of teen DPC members! I really wanted a place for all of us to be able to talk about photos, challenges, or just make friends. I started it just a few hours ago, so yea, the site is rough but it'll do. It has a message board, chat room, and a mailing list to sign up for (which is basically what constitutes memberships). If I can get enough people to join i will start challanges! Come visit my Teen DPC site!

Hey thanks for setting that up, Meggie. Sounds like a lot of fun. My two daughters (Jeni and Lauren) would love to join your mailing list and chat with other teen dpcers! By-the-way, you've got some great photos on your profile!

You're an inspiration to all of us younger ones. Make that three on your site! well good luck, and your photographs are great.

Thanks a ton! I think a lot of the teens on this site have a TON of potential and the main reason i made this site is so that we can all help each other reach our full potential.

I just went in the chatroom, but I guess it is too early for everyone else to be awake :)

Yeah nuff good idea ... I think there are many younger photogrophers these days and it would be great to share some knowledge (or lack of, in my case). We are the future!

I thought about this overnight, and changed my mind. I decided that this site should not be categorized. Age should not be a factor in Photography. Some of us "youngins" actually have more of a chance of winning than many of the older people on the site. We all compete and learn against eachother, regardless of age.

It's not categorizing, it's just a place to chat/hang out or whatever :)

Thats why theres the DPC fanatics room. This is a chat room, thats only for teens, its like saying, "We cant keep up with everyone" or "We need more attention because we're younger". IMHO

I think this is a great idea and wish I was 19 to just barely get in under the line. :) I don't think you can't go to Fanatics just because you go to Meggie's site. I think if you only use one learning tool for photography, you're limiting yourself in something you don't need to. Why say "I only want to learn one way" if two ways are open and free?
07/14/2003 10:31:34 AM · #12
Thats not the thinking behind this though. I created this for us to get to know each other and, like the other chat, help each other with our photos. Some may be intimidated to go to the chat where there is mostly adults. It's just a more comfortable enviornment to get to know each other.

On a side note, i'm happy to say there are now 7 people on the mailing list! If you do sign up, make sure you confirm it. Otherwise you will sit on the waiting list and will not recieve any mail.

That is totally true because I often go there. In fact, I am an admin there and the second room used to be a teen chat but it wasnt popular enough to keep.

I guess people misunderstood me. What im trying to say is, you can go to both fanatics and meggies site thats fine but im not saying that I don't want to be a part of the site because I refuse to have a learning tool because I want to limit myself! Thats not true, what im simply saying is what this makes me feel like is that this site is for those who consider themselves "inferior" or "inimidated" as Meggie said, by the adults, which should not be the case.

Why should we be intimidated by adults? Maybe it's just me but I feel completley comfortable in the forums and chat rooms here. And about help with photos, youre limiting yourself to only the help and opinions of the younger ones. Do you feel that with a site like this, the younger ones will improve more on their photos than they would in another forum or chat?

People SHOULDN'T be, but that doesn't mean that some people feel awkward in a room with none of their peers. I know I feel more comfortable in a place with my peers than with people all older than me.

I can talk to adults just fine, but it's always nice to talk to people my own age. We're more likely to share other hobbies etc.

I do to David, you just don't seem to understand why i started the site. I created this for teens to get to know their peers a little better. At least Konador understands that...

I have to admit, youre absolutley right. But, I guess it's a matter of opinion and taste. I usually find that I share more interests and hobbies with people older than me.

Alright, that I just posted a reply to that, but what about "help each other with our photos"?

i give up....i'm not talking about this anymore.....it's really frustrating me now that you are being nitpicky about every comment i make...either come to my site or don't, that's up to you....

Im not being nitpicky, I was just making things clear. I wasnt trying to discourge or encourage anyone from going to your site, if I was offensive in any way, I apologize, but I wanted to discuss it in hope of maybe you or me changing our minds for the better.

Hey Meggie, don't be discouraged, some people just like to argue (friendly wink at David). : ) I tried confirming Jeni and Lauren's emails and it didn't seem to work. When I pushed the link and followed the registration links, it asked me for a code which didn't appear on the email. Hmm. I'll keep trying. They were also unable to get in on the chat, maybe it's our browser? I'll have them try it with Explorer. I hope you don't mind having a couple of pre-teens hanging out there too?
Anyway, I think what you're doing is awesome! Teenagers do feel much more comfortable hanging out with people their own age. I'm sure most teenagers would never venture to enter a discussion with a bunch of intimidating adults (I've never chatted at Fanatics, I'm a bit intimitated too.)

OK, I tried it in IE and it's working now. Disregard the questions, I think we'll get it going. Do you know if Jeni or Lauren are on your mailing list yet? If not I'll try the email confirmation thing again. Thanks again Meggie!
