It could be worse...you could have taken nothing yet...like me. I'm going to go set fire to some liquid nitrogen or something. wish me luck.

If you are planning to try and set fire to liquid nitrogen, you are gonna need a whole lot of luck.

All the best to ya ;)

You're the Pyrotechnics guy, aren't you? I was going for a hot/cold kind of thing. that might confuse some though...i can see the comments "doesn't meet challenge topic - too cold and too hot, the positive cancels the negative"

Or something.

I took hot pictures. Then I took cold pictures. Then I took more hot pictures. Then I took more cold pictures. Now I've finally picked my submission. I've taken so many pictures for this challenge and looked at them so many times, I think I've lost my objectivity... Now I'm trying to decide if I should just pull my entry completely. <sigh>

Do you ever feel like you're going to have the same idea as everyone else and it's going to pull your score down?

If you have the same idea as everyone else...just make sure your is the best of that group...that should bump your score up. :)

if you don't have the same idea as everyone else the "dose not meet challenge" police will get you...

Sorry very bitter over what I thought was a creative statment and most DPCers thought was a mistate to be brought to my attention.

after no ideas all week, i finally came up with an idea, but im sure there will be at least 5 to 10 images (or more) of the same general subject im shooting....

I have done all my test shots and got my set up just right....now just waiting for the subject to reach the desired temperature.....

If you're going to be creative, you have to do it perfectly, or it looks like a mistake. or so I've found.

We like you anyway :)

For anyone looking for a last minute submission:

----

WARNING: this might conceivably be dangerous to yourself and your surroundings.

----

Take a fireproof tray, put a saucer in it, pile ice cubes on the saucer.

Make a mixture of 1 part rubbing petrol (or Heptane, or other gasoline derivative) and 2 parts lamp oil (or petroleum of some kind), and pour this over the ice cubes. (explanation: Lamp oil does not burn on its own, but has beautiful colour when it does.)

Light the whole thing on fire, take lots of pictures.

Safety precautions: if this goes tits up, do not attempt to put out with water. Have a few wet towels ready to cover the fire with, if something goes askew. The best thing is to just let it burn out.

If anything goes wrong - don't sue me - you're on your own :)

(i wanted to do this one, but came up with something else)

Have fun! (and sorry if I just told the recipe of someone else's idea. It is the most obvious hot/cold simile I could possibly come up with)

Did you hear of the charcoal briquette burning contest at some university back east in the USA? A professor finally broke the record and burned all of his briquettes in 1.4 seconds--using rocket fuel! It made quite an explosion and a large ball of fire!

This is one of those weeks that if no one likes my photo what can I say I covered hot and cold in my photo =o)

Ugh... A 1/2 hour into the challenge and I knew I should have withdrawn my submission. Looks like it's going to be a long week. ;)

Not that it's at all definitive so early in the challenge, but mine is not doing impressively, but for me it's doing fairly good.

Looking at the rest of the challenge, I'm astonished, because I don't think mine measures up that well against them. Ah, well, I'll enjoy it for however long it lasts. Maybe if I'm lucky it will be the whole week, but I have my doubts. :)

My worst since my first submission...interesting phenomenon. I guess I'm not getting better. Waste of my time and yours, I guess.

What, one off week counts as "not getting better"? :) Especially when "off" here means "failed to please the viewers" which may indicate a bad shot or may just mean it didn't resonate right?

No way. Even assuming that score sticks (and with only 15 votes it's awfully short on glue), you'll be way up there again on the next one, I'm sure.

Don't feel bad I am so disappointed right now with DPC after checking my scores...

At this very moment I feel like just walking away. I know there is one very minor flaw in my photo and yet it really isn't that big of a flaw to be scoring that low. I guess I am paying for allowing the real me to show through lately.

Don't feel bad, mavrik. Mine's well under 4. If our scores move, we've done something right. Without ups and downs, well, I'll second your sentiments. ;-)

Hey folks.

I'm an amatuer and I've only been on DPChallenge for the last couple of challenges.

It seems to me that I'm approaching the challenges literally and several people have more creative takes on the concept behind the challenges I've entered.

How many people here are full-time photogs and whats the average amount of time you spend (regardless of your profession) on the challenges here?

maybe it's just harsher voters these days. . . i have a nice shot that i'm happy with but a 4.67 in the challenge. i say screw em. :)

Apparently the morning voters like my picture much more than last night's voters. It's up over a half of a point from last night. Hooray! Anybody else notice a vast improvement?
