I definitely snipe - I wait until the last minute or less and place my bid. I win more times than not that way. I avoid bidding too early because it only makes the price go up and up and I even sometimes avoid "watching" an item just so there seems to be no interest.
Many time shipping costs are high but there are a lot of fair sellers too. Just gotta pay attention and bid wisely. I think it's easy to get in the "I wanna win" mode and forget to be conservative with your bidding.
Ebay is a lot of fun though. You can get some deals if you're careful. My latest win was a 43" 5-in-1 reflector that B&H sells for about $60. I paid half that (including S&H) and it was brand new, too.

I snipe, but don't use any software to do it.
...It's interesting to see the replies here. And it never ceases to amaze me how far we've come. For the (vast) majority of years I've been on this planet (!?), we've never had anything remotely like an eBay. To sell buy or sell something, you went to your local mall, flea market, or *if you REALLY wanted coverage*, you paid for an ad in your local swap sheet or newspaper. You might get 100s (!) of people to view your ad. Today you have a global markeplace, with literally millions of potential buyers.
It also amazes me how many people (generally young, ...no offence ;-) take this new paradigm for granted... |

I would just bid what my max would be and still be considered a good deal and go to sleep. You won't be paying any more than your max whether someone 'snipes' you or not. If someone does 'snipe' you, you wouldn't have tried to outbid him/her at the last minute anyway, would you? If you don't win the auction, there will always be another.....bet on it.
P.S. I have e-mailed people who have BIN prices and gotten it for lower than the BIN price. Then again, I would also buy 2 or 3 items from that person.

I've pondered the "giving your password to a snipe program" question... but then I figured that if anything bad happened to my account, I'd spot it quickly, so the risk of exposure is low. Personally, I use JBidWatcher as my sniping software. It's free!
Sometimes I bid during the last day, sometimes I snipe. Depends on the item and the amount of interest. But I always bid the maximum I'm willing to pay - bidding lower amounts and stepping up gives other people an advantage over me. And if I bid my maximum and still lose, then there's no regret because it was more than I was willing to pay.

I use ebay ALOT.....buying/selling....I make enough on selling my couple extra Steeler tickets to pay for the entire next years set of tickets!
I personally don't use a snipe, I bid up to my max and then try to watch it closely at the end. I guess I have no one to blame but myself but I HATE the snipe programs. I don't believe that is what the original concept of eBay is. I particularly hate when someone comes in and STEALS the item that you have been bidding on for 5 days. I prefer to use BIN if I really want it that bad however bidding sometimes results in getting it lower than BIN then someone bursts in the door and yanks it out of my hands..... oh well, I guess if I wanted to be like them there are programs that would do that for me. I like the good old auction format.

last time I looked (about a year ago) it was against ebays user agreement to let someone else use your username/password, in fact here is the section,

The last sentence seems to imply that giving your username/password to a sniping website would be reason enough to get you suspended or banned from ebay, using sniping software on your own computer however should be fine.
In saying this though I have never heard of anyone getting suspended for using a sniping website, and it would be something which I'm sure ebay could easily check up on if they wanted to...
Personally I do the multiple window thing like AFViper it's more fun :)
