Here's a thread where we can capture the best places, around the world, to shoot photos.

List some places you've been where you've captured a great set of shots. Give general instructions on where it is, what you find is great about it, recommend a place to stay if applicable. And post a photo or two you took there!

Then this thread will be valuable as we plan our trips!

In Toronto....The Distillery District
I am biased since I work there :) but it is a local photo fav. Beautiful old buildings with much character. The whole area is full of gallerys ( I have seen a few great photo exhibits here) and cute shops and restaurants
Mill Street- King and Parliment St

after seeing this shot of brad's,

i decided i had to have one for myself. so, i booked a flight to san diego, booked a room at the coronado marriott, and headed out to get mine.

first day was ok, but i couldn't find his vantage point. second day, i hiked all the way around, under the bridge, down to the golf course, around the clubhouse, and back up the beach. found the vantage point, but the weather refused to cooperate. didn't try the third day. day 4, i drove over to the golf course club house, walked out to the beach, and shot this

there were some other key differences...brad shot his in february and i shot mine in september. when i was there, the lights on the bridge threw no reflections at all. also, he included much better notes in his image details ;-)

You guys be the judge whether they are good shot's, or not but these were taken between the Manhattan Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge.....just left of an area called Dumbo..."Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass" A very cool spot with a nice peaceful park, looking onto Manhattan's lower end.

This was taken at the nearest subway stop, York Street

DUMBO

A clarifying request...please give specific locations (e.g., Iceland seems too large a range)! To me, the purpose of the thread is to provide a "travel guide" to allow people to plan to go to specific locations for shooting!

Example:

This shot is from Glacier Point Alaska. It was reached as part of an excursion on a wonderful Alaska inside passage cruise. No one lives on Glacier point, except a rotating crew of guides. While we were waiting to be picked up by the Katamaran we were left to explore the wonderful beach at sunset. There was not a bit of civilization in site, and the view in all directions was fantastic! I shot this large piece of driftwood, with the sunset and streaking rays of light in the background. (Unfortunately, exposure on this was difficult, and I never got it quite right in processing. This was shot with my G2):

I have said it a few years back, it would be great if we had a section in the menu with travel locations where we can add this kind of stuff. Browse per country with city sublevels.

I'm pretty partial to the shots I get of Louisville, KY (from Indinia side of the water) but have never actually shot in the City. And there is always tons of places in and around Chicago, IL. I hope the weather holds out for a shoot down there this Saturday afternoon/evening.

I also love photographing the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee and the barns in and around Georgetown, KY (home).

(I second the idea of having some sort of list where you can see images from around a certain cities or locations...of course if people would put info on their submissions correctly we could search for stuff too but a list is a cooler idea.)

Russia, St. Petersburg and surroundings

- At the bank of the Neva at the Petersburg Hotel, a great view on the Aurora cruiser with the old city as a background
- At the back of the Petersburg Hotel, in the morning, large groups of marching cadets
- At the front of the Bloodchurch, lots of marrying couples the whole day
- At Birzhevaya Ploschad, for marching cadets with the Winter Palace as a background
- The palace square (Hermitage) in the morning before the tourists arrive
- The garden of the Catherine Palace in the fall
- So many places that are great

Good chance I'll go back there this year.

Luxembourg City

Come in summer for street animation, in winter for architecture, in spring for nature (outside Luxembourg City).

I agreee. But let's see how much we can gather in this thread. And have enough detail to let others visit, and find the great locations. And then we will see what we can do with it. If the structure is not set up here eventually, I might volunteer to host it as a "adjunct" site.

I think the results can be great, but lets see how much we can get in this thread for starters!

Smoky Mountain National Park -
Stay at the Cades Cove campground and explore the heck out of the Cades Cove Township, though - its better if you stay outside of the park in a hotel (Gatlinburg is good) LATE in the season because of the cold but better near Thanksgiving to avoid crowds, and mid summer its better if your brave wtih all those hikers to shoot salamanders, fox, turkeys, bear and birds. The hordes and hordes of people are less in the late fall, though by lunchtime it will still be pretty crowded.
Map of the park

Amazing scenery,

Lots of Creepy old houses and churches in Cades Cove (get to the old baptist church before the people to catch deer in the graveyard)

great people

and wildlife you can shoot with a 18-70

Shelburne Falls MA!

Hit mid summer for awesome flowers on the Bridge of Flowers, Halloween for random people running around the town in dressup and AMAZING decorations, anytime for the glacial potholes (BRING A POLARIZER!!) and fall is ALWAYS breathtaking in new england.

Stay at the Bear Haven Bed and Breakfast (though, the website is AWFUL with blinkyflash and music. LOL) for the ultimate experience with shaven cats, AMAZING breakfast, and lots and lots of kitzy beary decor. Tell Dean and Chris that the Jonses sent you!! throngs of interesting people come through thier kitchen all morning, sit and have coffee on the front porch and meet the neighbors, pat the really happy super-cute puppy. Dean and Chris are some of the most interesting people you will ever meet. After breakfast with them just drive and drive and drive up and down the mohawk trail, bring a GPS and loose yourself. If your looking for some really interesting people - head down to South Hampton or Amherst to UMASS campus... or if you like music gig photography, Go to the Iron Horse or the Hilltown Folk in Shelburne Falls center (round the corner from Bear Haven) and see whatever is playing there. Call ahead for permission to shoot the shows. :)

mmm, I have a lot of other places in Alabama, Alaska, Boston, San Fran, New Hampshire and Maine... I'll try to get to them after todays shoots. :)

A great location for shooting the Cincinnati, Ohio skyline is located across the river, in Kentucky. It's called Devou Park

There are several good locations along the Kentucky side of the River for photography.

Here are a few I took at Devou Park, but I'm not particularly happy with these.

I second the Smoky Mountains. We stayed in Gatlinburg, summertime, but traveled more into the mountains rather then the town. It was beautiful! Not too far of a ride to the Cherokee Rez in N.Carolina & there are some really great trails & lookouts.
My granfather lives in Tn., I'm feeling the need to visit again real soon!

In my mind I'm gone to Carolina...........

Also wanted to add that the Pennsylvania Dutch area is also beautiful.
