Anyone else seen the new one? It ranks among the top stinkers of movies I've seen (right up there with "Buckeroo Bonsai" LOL)

They could have cut the running time in half just by cutting in half the "staring at the monkey" scenes by the actress (don't know her name.)

yep I saw it and enjoyed it, I thought it was pretty good

that's interesting, heard nothing but rave reviews all around.

I haven't seen it but have heard quite a few say it wasn't worth the admission. I did see Narnia tonight and absolutely LOVED it!

I said it looked cheesy from the commercials and I about got beat by some people at work. They thought it was one of the best movies ever.

hehe...that's why this site is so interesting! So many opinions. :)

Really, I thought it was just awful. Way overdone, Every scene took forever. The gross factor was just not needed. I'm glad you liked it though. :)

Hey over here (New Zealand) there are so many people in the movie you are bound to know at least one ... I know at least three ... so I went ... there was a good hour to start and another good hour to finish and nothing but crap in the middle hour .. but hey that is my opinion on it ... I have a thing about giant bugs etc .. they just gross me out and violence isn't really my thing ... the love story was good though :) I preferred Chronicles of Narnia ... I have read that book and the movie was a perfect tie in.

I liked it. I didn't love it like I did Narnia, but I felt I got my money's worth.
My son (10), however, was annoyed at the fact that it took so long to get to King Kong... he kept wispering "Where's King Kong?...When are they gonna get to King Kong?"

And Narnia was absolutely wonderful!!!! Probably my favorite movie this year.....and I loved the ending.

Oh I knew that...just wanting to yak about something tonight and we just got back from the movie. I was just explaining a little more about why I didn't like it.

I'll have to see about catching Narnia at some point.

Typically we have one son that can not sit quietly more than 15 mins into a movie ... during Narnia he only fidgited once!! It was a miracle!!! He loved the movie and my 10 yr old daughter is already reading the books!

Affectionados of Kong cannot miss it..... King Kong is an opportunity to meet him on large screen if you never have.

I quite enjoyed Kong. Yes, it was long, probably by 45 minutes, BUT the development of the characters did make up for it. Come on, the central park scene was priceless and worth your $8.50 right there.

I'm fairly stingy with rating movies, but on my blog I gave it a 9. (I think I've only had one other 9 this year.)

I thought the cgi detail on kong was quite impressive - all the way down to the scars on his back from past experiences with the dinosaurs.

I think the movie was slow to start but I was one of the weepydeepys at the end. And no, I don't have a thing for giant monkeys - I felt for him though. Alone, no more mrs kong or baby kongs. Then carted off the ol' big apple and offed ... very sad. I liked the expressive eyes.

My overall opinion: so much potential, so much magic, but the long, dragging beginning just dragged it down. And the running with the dinosaurs was not believable. And some of the kong-vs-dinos was too long. All of which is too bad. I'd watch it again, but I'm funny that way.

I do want to see narnia - looks very good.

Edit to say: wow the monkey looked like a monkey

No edit to add: I know he's not a monkey, I just like saying monkey.

I thought it was enjoyable, but not much more. Also too damn long. Some scenes on the island were just way over the top and unreal. I liked the NY scenes though (when they finally got there). The characterization and cgi physics of Kong was really well done in my opinion.

yep everything about it was great, I liked the time period they kept it in and I liked how they showed King Kong's sense of humor and also the T-Rex scene was awesome

I went to see it at the cinima and thought they kept pretty tight to the original story line and the graphix were pretty stunning but my only complain would be the casting... jack driscol-wrong.... carl denim-wrong....

from what i remember from the original story jack driscol should be a hard man like errr steve macqueen for example and carl denim is a self centered bastard, better played by someone like errrr peter o'toole would of done it fantastic...

overall i thought it was a good remake of a classic story and the emotional exchanges between kong and the girl were a little over emphersized but important i think and done rather well..

the worse ever tremake was done in 1974 and sucked eggs
yes 2005 version was over cooked in places but hey... you got the money, may as well blow it on special effects....

I enjoyed it... we are watching Nania tonight im expecting it to blow my mind

hmm i didn't think it was that great. it was good, but the movie just seemed to drag on and on

but i have to say...that t-rex part was pretty cool

In defence of all things Kiwi, both movies (Narnia and Kong) are the best thing to come out of the NZ movie industry since LOTR.

I've not been to either yet, but will drag myself along to both at the big screen before they are reduced to DVD in 6 months time...

Cheers, Me. :-).

I was rather disappointed with King Kong. Many of the shots were drawn out far to long.

Hey, I liked King Kong ... but then I also liked Buckeroo Bonzai!

Narnia was seriously good entertainment IMO, better than King Kong. A story with depth at many levels and a movie that was extraordinally well crafted, including the CG.
