Man, that was great. I wish I had just a tiny fraction of your creativity. I really wish that you lived in the states so you could enter the video contest I posted yesterday.

Keep up the good work. You're an awesome cinematographer.

I Liked when he opened the package and the music fit it to a T. I applaud you and your friends, No title? how about the "The Gift"

A very good effort! You can only get better.

I showed it to my dad and he had one bit of critique...He thought that fading all the way to black was distracting.

Bravo in concept Joey! Many of your shots are outstanding and the music is perfect. Time well spent dude! I would call it "Christmas Light".

Nice movie. I wondered a few things while watching it.. was there a reason for him walking past the wagon wheel and the RV in the woods?

Yep Joey, from our last PM discussion, I never saw any of your work until now.

You do have talent. You should pursue your career in the film biz.

Did you use After Effects in this peice?

When you come to Hollywood, let me know. Would love to meet ya. If you need a DP, I can help you there.

Nice job.

I loved it! Very creative and flowed with the music perfectly. Aside from the staged snowfall (which really didn't matter to me) everything drew me in. Keep this up and you'll go far.

Also, I like the Icelandic music. What is the title of the song?

I really like most of it, but there was a little hiccup (for me) when you switched to shots of Christmas lights at the end.

Would have been nice to go to different houses, and get several full shots of exteriors suddenly switching lights on, obviously different houses, and then time them to the drumbeat. Dunno if you could have pulled it off, but also a top down shot with the lights kind of flowing out in a wave from the cliffside through the city.

Otherwise, well paced with the ascention of the music and generally good stuff.

One more idea, replace the kids racing out of the school with: long straight street of dark houses looking dead center down street, glowing orb shooting up from center of street far off, lights suddenly racing up the street on the houses toward viewer, camera pans as if to catch action, stops 90 degrees on person (girl/guy, whatever) and immediately the camera the rotates around them as they also rotate to watch the lights race onward away from mysterious star/orb, camera still rotating as person does, and then lowers to ground looking up at sky with person staring at the orb/star thingy. then switch back to cliff scene. you'd prolly need a stabilized mounting system for that one though.

As you know, I totally believe in your work and in you (most of the time) LOL. You have my full support. Your work is emotive, creative and has way more soul than a boy your age should have. Your gifted. Use your gift with integrity and honor.

I personally would like to have seen this end with a more spiritual ending (rather than house lights) but there are thousands of ways to do any one thing. This was your interpretation, your vision and its really beautiful.

Just had to thank you very much for sharing this. I loved the music, which I have never heard before, and you did such a fabulous job with it - excellent timing. I also love the time lapsed scenery shots.
Thanks again, very much, for sharing.
I'm truly glad I was able to see this. Shannon :)

Holy Smokes! I didn't realize you did movies too! That rocks! I love it. The music, angles, lighting, and wow, the whole plot. You are very talented. I have a feeling you will go far!

I just showed my wife the video, she adored it 100%. She don't talk much, so I don't know what about it she liked or didn't like, she just said she really liked it, and walked out of the room. LOL.

Simply amazing. I have no idea what it means, therfore it must be art! And not ROFLMAO, either - REAL ART! :-)

Fascinating concept, well executed, and perfectly complimentary soundtrack. Nice work.

I just had another one of those "totally blown over by Joey" moments again. Wow.

Keep it up, this is just phenomenal work.

Thanks for the comments and ideas everyone. I just got back from relatives houses and I am very pleased to see so many responses to it. :-)

I will now attempt to answer some questions...

What are you making these with? As far as hardware and software?

My video camera is just your average family video camera, it's a sony mini dv camcorder we got about 2 years ago. No 3CCD quality or anything, however it takes relativly nice shots but really suffers in dark areas. (I blurred a lot of the noise in photoshop by hand.) I then can import the footage through firewire where I did the main editing in Adobe Premiere Pro. To grade the footage, I exported section as a .flm into Photoshop CS2. I also did frame by frame dodging on the peoples faces as they look up and see the light. The optics were done in a special effects program called FxLab. You can do them somewhat in Premiere, but masking things is very difficult.

The genius is in the ideas...the technicals are easy to learn, right? and i believe you are indeed genius...i could use your input now with my own projects...so i really can't wait till we finally get to work together! less than six months till production on the new stuff...do i hear collaboration? :)

Alright let's do it!

That's the point of not having a title, I think it gives your mind too much to expect and takes away from you forming your own perception of the imagery.

For me, the traveller is walking the whole time as a personal journey to deliver the present. No one is with him, he is alone to bring it himself. He walks by other forms of transportation, but they are broken. Again, perceive it as you want. :-)

No After Effects, don't have that program... :-(
And yes sure :-)

Amazing Joey. My goodness, I am very impressed. I just told my husband this kid is going some where, I'm not sure where, but to the top of whatever he decided to do. :) Thanks for sharing your talents with us.

Awesome short film, I don't usually like this stuff but this was great. The music was incredible too, perfect for what you did here...

Still serious about coming up and doing some stills of you at work filming. I think someone should be documenting what you are doing.
