It is the fore runner for names for my photojournalist company. Any thoughts on it ???

Better then "Plan 9" :P

Statistics have shown that the name of a company is one of the most least important decisions you should have to make. If your company is good...the name won't matter. If Mountain Dew was called Goat Piss....I would still drink it.

That said....I like the name.

:P

Thus this begins the rise of Plan B Photojournalism you've all just watched the birth of a giant tonight. I'll put in about $185,000 to kick it off and see where I go. Wish me luck people it was this or a night club.

crap dude...do the nightclub.

That's been my dream for a long time...to own a nightclub. I have some pretty cool ideas and actually made some plans in my drafting class.

Ahhh....I think you should start a nightclub and then make me the manager of it or something, lol ;)

Or you could put me on as a photographer on Plan B! :P

I gotta go to bed. 'Night

You need a tag line...
How about, "Plan B -- Where a plan comes together."

I'm a little confused about the idea of having your company named after something associated with second choice.

Is your intent to provide a low-cost alternative to expensive PJ dudes?

Seems odd to me. I think it would work if you were pitching to people in business already, but not if you were planning on marketing to the public with it.

That's what you get for 2 cents. My opinion worth 2 cents.

Also, what was said about the nightclub makes sense too. A nightclub (if successful) means a licence to print money (although life-span for any incarnation can be limited to 2-5 years depending on your city), but a job as a photographer often means a licence to eat beans from a can heated by a bic lighter.

Wow, I couldn't agree with that more. Plan B is a post failure consideration and not a first choice. Are you sure that's how you want to stack yourself up?

I would never want to be considered a Plan B selection even if that was my bread and butter and I'm not sure if I agree with the "goat piss" idea either.

There's gotta be a better choice...

Plan B means a second attempt to me - I wouldn't have thought its a good thing to put that thought into the mind of your customers right from the start....

Nix Olan B. No Question.
How about, "Photo-Genesis"? or " gotta go... maybe some more later. More info on what you will be doing would help.

I rather like it. Yes, it insinuates that it's a second choice but most people look for professionals after they have unsuccessfully tried something themselves. So...Plan B saves the day!

Forgot to add: Good Luck, whatever you name it!

Where are you? In Boston there are two local bands named Plan B and one of them is doing rather well.Plan B Maybe you should check the yellow pages in your are to be sure there isn't something conflicting.

I have worked in the service industry for years, as a Pastry Chef, but still I do somwhat know the biz....Stay Away from tthe club...Unless you have personally spent years working in or managing clubs.
Too many peeps think it'd be kewl to own a restaurant or bar cause they have the cash, but with little experience they think it is easy.
It isn't.
You can have the best ideas in the world for design, etc, but be smart if you havent worked in the industry don't open a place. 90% fail in the first year, and I think it is due to great spirit and imagination with no real life experience :))
Make Plan B your first choice !! :))

I'm with those that see Plan B as conveying a choice that's not the best choice, not the first choice, but is the choice one is forced into ... hardly a winning connotation.

We don't know what his company's about, though. Maybe he's starting a photojournalistic agency for those who aren't accepted by Magnum? Then "Plan B" would be just right :-) But yeah, I'm with you on this one; on the surface of it, the name seems very negative.

Especially since (in the USA) it's also associated with a controversial pharmaceutical ... I think as far as a bussiness name goes you should start working on plan B ... : )

Wow didn't expect so much feed back. I guess I need to explain myself a little better.

I have been in the bartending business for the pass 13 years running a very lucrative bartending service called Tenders. We are the largest bartending svc. in Southern CA. At our peak we could put a bartender in over 30 states and 3 countries. 2 of the countries were in Europe. Not too bad when it started off just a part time fun thing for ski money. It blossomed into a corp. entity that bought up 3 other business one of which was a 65 year old european deli. The deli had a beer and wine license that we needed to expand. We have since disolved the corp. and sold the deli. We made a fortune off it and that was way more than we expected. Were now back down to the service end again where there is no overhead or cost it's all profit. We're looking to sell the company or maybe even franchise. It's been a great run but we just don't have the sparkle in our eye to continue this business and we always felt that sparkle made us better than our competitors.

As far as the nightclub I spent 9 years researching it and have one of the best business plans you could possibly come up with. Being in the industry I'm very aware of all the pitfalls and problems. One of our departments in Tenders is Theft Prevention. We spend time in night clubs undercover watching for signs of theft or bad dealings. I just don't know if I desire to stay involved in this industry.

The sparkle now lies in photography. It always has I suppose I just never thought about making money in photography. Now that I'm published and making a name for myself I can actually visualize a sort of business emerge from my camera.

Plan B was exactly as Marjo had suggested that most people like to shop around for photogs and usually don't go with their first plan. Just my experience but you all have very good points. I will definately give this some serious thought. If anyone has any suggestions I would be very open to any?

You could put a positive and humorous spin on it by calling it Plan A
12/24/2005 01:25:58 PM · #23
How about...

Plan B - Save yourself some trouble, call us first...

Or something along those lines anyway.
12/24/2005 02:13:41 PM · #24
Since your interested in the customers final decision why not call it "Final Choice Photography"
12/24/2005 02:33:00 PM · #25
I agree about plan b not being the best. How about ''Blue Ribbon Photography''?

Best of luck with your new venture

Mike
