Hello everyone! I haven't yet had the opportunity to participate in a challenge, and frankly, that's because I barely know what I'm doing :P I'd greatly appreciate any criticism on the following photo:

I haven't yet tried to get rid of the graininess. Adjustment included automatic colour enhancement, auto contrast enhancement, unsharp mask plus some channel mixing and more auto-stuff on the iris. Original pic:

I nervously await the expert opinions :-

Instead of cropping the original photo so much, maybe you should try to take a picture of your eye a little closer....that way you could retain the sharpness of the photo.

It also looks like the focus is a little off on te original photo..and I think this was amplified when you zoomed in on the eye.

Just some thoughts...

Get in the game, girl! ;-)

Your edits are hard to evaluate without some context - what is the image created or going to be used for? On their own, the eye closeup looks ok - a little painterly-ish, but that might be what you wanted. The second looks like you knocked on my door and I am looking at you through the peep-hole viewer - so if it is titled "Knock Knock" or something like that, it's very good.

Entering challenges will help you improve - both in taking photos and editing - no question about it.

Thank you so much for the encouragement! All your points on the photos are well taken. When I took "Knock Knock" last year, the resultant edit wasn't on my mind. BTW, I call that original image "Don't Mess with Me," being in a bad mood that day :P I'm pleased with the drama of the edit, but macro really needs to become my new best friend. Most photos I take are for my own amusement, and my eyes are my best feature, so I have a subject on hand all the time, LOL.

I *almost* entered in the 4-5 am challenge, but it became 12:06 before I knew it :P I wasn't happy with my entry anyway. Distracting elements, grainy and poor composition, and I didn't realize it would be the best of all the shots I took. I really need a camera with more manual settings :P Once again, thank you all for the comments and pokes to get entering!
