Strange... I took the straight version of this image:
And I ran the polar coordinates on the entire image, then squished it square, and got this:

You can run the same steps on an already processed image to "reverse" the results and end up with the "original" image. It's lower quality and has a circular "frame" around it but it works. |

It's fun seeing everyone else's images!
I'm glad you're enjoying it too...
A friend taught me this last night (we were chatting on Skype phone) and that was it - I did my first one and then 51 more before going to bed in the early hours!
I quickly discovered a preference for more abstract and assymetrical results and quickly worked out which kinds of content works best for me by working through a large number of the images I have on my hard drive!
Some people do further manipulation to the results - duplicating the layer, flipping the duplicate and then merging them together and so on but I like the basic results myself!
Would be interested to know which of my 52 people like best?
If you're a flickr member please do leave comments on my pics, if not, would be pleased if you could give feedback here - just refer to the image's title so I know which one...
THANKS and carry on circling!

A friend of mine had been doing these and I never investigated how.
Thanks for posting the tutorial, Kavey.
Here are my first attempts:
Both done in Elements from my hot air balloon collection.

An alarming number of these end up looking like CAT scans of someone's brain ... pretty cool. |

Thanks! I added a bunch to flickr and added you as a contact.
I have a question, though. Mine are all coming out with a narrow line at top center. You can see it in the photos I posted earlier. Am I doing something wrong that causes that? Most I see are much more consistent all the way around.

I have to admit, i ran it twice on the image with free rotate in the middle, and then did the border.

How did you get rid of the break in it Robert? Mine have that break to.

These are great! SDW that butterfly one IS great!
I'm guessing the break is something to do with the crop selected but I haven't had it appear in any of mine so I don't know...
Thanks for adding me as a flickr contact autumncat!

Here are some of my attempts. Depending on the crop, they don't all come out as circles though.
