New is, that Ritz Camera has started marking some of their pre-orders as in Stock, or Shipped. Credit Cards have been Charged..
It looks like the first wave of D200's have begun...

One shop that i called said that the demo camera is available if I want it. I will come by their store tomorrow after work to find out. i am not really sure because i don't speak thai and he doesn't speak fluent english either. if it is a demo camera with a warranty, do you think i should get it? or should i wait til the end of january (as what the other store says)?

maybe pedro got his already. hello!!!!

Manny...your photography is not hindered in the least by your Nikon D70!

I would wait for a new one simply for the warranty and any bugs that might be worked out in software etc...

after the d70 blinking green light debacle, i'm holding out on the d200 for a while.

that, and i have no $ and need a new laptop first. :)

Manny-Unless you have to return your loaner, I'd wait and do it right. I'm no expert but it might make a difference if the camera has any bugs in the system.

I heard from my salesman at J&R (thought I don't believe it to be 100% true) that the second round would only be a week or two behind the first. Anyway, I'd prefer not having something that's been handled and fired a few thoudand times...but that's me.

Good Luck.

TartarFan-Where did you see that Ritz started shipping? It doesn't look like the usual sites that I check...nor Ritz have stated it as in-house yet.

Patience Manny-san. I'm actually waiting til Spring to get mine. By then the hype will be over, most bugs should be fixed and the stores will have plenty in stock. In the mean time my D70 rocks!!! :-)

Have you tried wedging a piece of folded-up paper under one corner? That should keep it stable. :)

problem is...i don't have a camera right now. i have to borrow from people. pretty soon, they'll get tired of me borrowing from them and would just say a flat "no" to me.

Manny not having a camera would be a crime against humanity :-/

Maybe we need a "lend Manny a camera till he gets a Nikon D200" drive?

Better yet Manny maybe you could buy a cheap D70 on e-bay, then sell it when you are ready for the D-200? You could still use any lenses you buy.

Hahaha!!! Actually, it is my crime against me if I don't get myself a camera pretty soon. Hokie, I don't mind you lending me your camera:). Yanik, I will fly to Ottawa once my students or my brother refuse to lend to me their camera.

I called the Nikon shop just now and they said shipment might come this afternoon or tomorrow. Hmmmm...I will believe it once I see and touch it. My Nikon money might run out soon.

What your news from your corner of the world?

What I've noticed.

Canon users are more conservative (politically)
Usually use Windows based computers
Are less anal about stuff
All around friendlier people (when approached in public about photography/cameras).

vs

Nikon users are usually very liberal (politically)
Lean toward Apple Computers
Nit Picky and tend to be extreme in beliefs (about photography mostly)
Not as friendly out in public (when I've approached them about photography/cameras etc.)

There, I said it.

Umm....What? <:-/

We have about 9 photographers at my work and they are such a mish mash of things they sometimes contradict each other...much less stereotypes.

I for instance..had a Nikon film camera..my first digital was a Canon and I went back to Nikon...I use PC's and Macs for different things although I prefer PC's, I am nit picky and anal and could care less..all at the same time...and I am so friendly in public I wonder sometimes if parents pull their kids a little closer when they see me working my way to them.

Anyway....Manny.....I spoke to one of my photography buddies about getting Bob Llewellyn to look at your portfolio for National Geographic...they said Bob is a butthole but my boss would love to see some of your shots high rez..I will shoot you a list of some of the ones we want to print out and show around.

Later........

What I have noticed is that a couple of years ago both Nikon and Canon users were interested in photography.

Nowadays they (the majority)are mostly interested in technology, spent more hours testing noise, front focus, back focus, AF speed, write times and bitch about every little thing that might go wrong. Day after day they go on and on in forums why their manufacturer is so good and the other so wrong, why their technology rocks and the other's technology sucks. They are not interested in photography and when they shoot something other than rulers they produce piss poor results that even my dog doesn't want to shit on. But they don't blame it on themselves, no it is their camera that let them down. All hell brakes loose when their camera does not get a Highly Recommended at dpreview, as if that rating is going to improve what they can do with their choice of camera. When you tell them you don't like their picture because it has crap content, no composition and flat light you are attacked by the whole user group. Hey, it was taken with a (enter camera model here), therefore it has the least noise, the least backfocus, the magic (enter manufacturer here) processing and simply therefore it is a great photo! Don't bitch about our camera, because that makes you the lowest piece of shit on earth.

You see it constantly on the net. In comparrisson there are a zillion people everyday bitching and whining in technology fora, ganging up in "Nikon/Canon enter model here"-user groups and there are only a few people talking photography at photography sites.

And this, ironically, has little to do with what camera they own.

easy way to stay away from Camera (technology) envy is try to take the best pic's with what you have ... limitations and all

i can't say i've ever looked at a Canon
might have picked up one or two in my life ..

& since i started with Nikon - i won't switch - the glass & associated toys would be difficult(and $$) to replace / getting a D200 is a way i can send out the 3yr old D100 for a good cleaning (28000 frames ...) & will make a great back up camera

it is just a tool ...
assigning personality traits to camera owners is rather silly & you mightaswell do it by hieght or hair colour ...

Get it? Or do you need a manual

Hmmm...registered to DPC 4 days ago, has participated in 3 threads (all rants), and has no camera listed (I know - waiting on the D200).

What manual are YOU working with? ;^)

That is Amazing!!
I am a Nikon User
I am so conservative I make the BUSH family look like liberals.
I can;t stand using a Mac.
I love it when people approach me in public about Camera stuff and photography in General, and I help local High School students with questions, tips, and tricks.
Nit Pick? No, but I love facts and despise people who bend them to fit there ideas and beliefs..
I think Canon vs Nikon vs Whatever is a waste of breath, and a sign of a small minded person who just wants to make themselves feel better about there choice..

Now as far as someone talking about my recent signup, and no Camera listed,,,
I have been a member of DPReview.com for a long while,
I own a Nikon Coolpix 5600. a Nikon Coolpix 8700, and Just sold my Nikon D70.
Indead my D200 is schedule for delivery tomorrow.
I own the 70-200 VR, the 24-120VR, The Sigma 24-60 f/2.8, The Sigma 70-300 APO DG Supper II, and have pre-ordered the Nikon 18-200 VR.

I am a High School Football Photographer, and my website is //www.TartarFootball.com or Http://www.TorranceFootball.com, and have been the photographer for the team and this website for over 4 years.

What I really don't understand about this RANT section, is why some of you have to change the subject to a Something vs Something thread every chance you get. If your unhappy with your choice of Camera System, change it, if you are happy with it, why try to make yourself feel better with the Versus crud...

My Rant, responses, and time invested in this thread has reach the end.
I am going to be too busy learning how to familiarize myself with my new D2oo for the next coupl of weeks.

Goodbye for now!!

The funny part is that when a person says "I got a nikon" all the Canon people jump on them.

When its the other way around, you dont see Nikon people jumping in and saying Canon sucks.

Its pretty pathetic, but oh well, let them measurbate their noise tests while I take nice pictures with my Nikon.
