New pic (hmm.... only pic - need to upload some more stuff) in portfolio.

All comments gratefully received - I have uploaded this straight out of the camera, no editing whatsoever. I will hopefully soon get some time to clear my photo backlog....

Nice shot, but here is what I don't like about it:
1- The use of space is not adding much value, the specific tree in the scene is not interesting so it would've been better to zoom in on the squirrel.
2- The main subject here (the squirrel) is not exposed properly, it's just too dark, probably because of the bright sky in the background, when you take shots against brighter background you have to use the flash.
3- Contrast and details are just average but not impressive.

marklovell- I love how close up yours is...what lens did you use?
12/09/2005 03:48:59 PM · #5
That was a 80-320mm lens on a dSLR at 220mm, so 330mm effective with the conversion. I'm just uploading another.

This is it:

Again unedited....

Currently working through the shoot today on the laptop, alas no time for my own photos to get edited...

All opinions gratefully received.

Ok, thinking I might actually spoil myself this evening and do some editing of my own pics for a change....

I will repost when I have...

In the meantime if anyone feels like posting suggestions on composition etc beyond what samanwar has, that'd be great...

I managed to grab a shot of the ultra elusive and rare RED squirrel in Aberdeenshire last year.

The first and last time I've seen one in the wild

Where do you get crazy squirrels that swim for their food? If they were quite inclined to swim much down here they would be the food.

Swimming squirrels! How cool.

I got a shot of one leaving his house the other day.

These are great!

here's one from my first challenge. I had a bunch more that I took with my olympus but they seem to have disappeared- must have copied them to disk and erased from the computer.

Anyhow, here's a guy who visits us every day. He'll even claw on our kitchen window if we haven't put food out for him.squirrell

Probably the progeny of some escaped cold war experiment. Or something from a Monty Python movie.
