It seems in every challenge there are a few shots that are truly awful. I mean TRULY awful. Extremely out of focus, extremely dark, and/or no mind for composition whatsoever.

I understand people are learning, however the shots I'm talking about would improve just by turning the camera on auto and using the flash. I know you all know what I'm talking about. So why do people bother posting them? This is digital photography, I find it hard to believe that a better shot couldn't have been had / posted.

they are after the coveted brown ribbon, its 1,000 time more valuable than a blue ribbon

I'm sure you didn't mean to sound so mean but that almost came across heartless. just because she hasn't posted in any challenges doesn't me she has any less of an oppinion as a voter

I hate to see spelling errors in entry titles, but I hate even more when I make a spelling error in my thread titles and when I see I have made one usually post and say so. So far, with one exception, they have been corrected...so thanks to the SC that see my distraught posts about my spelling errors in thread titles!

I guess some people post "aweful" because they're not so good as you think you are. ;)

If somebody takes a bad photo, but nobody sees it, is it still a bad shot?

If nobody gives it a 4, is it a ribbon winner?

I do it to stay under the radar. You put your best stuff up and get shot down then you look like a fool. LOL YAY!

If it's a great shot that makes people mad, is it a candidate for brown?

You know, I see a lot of people here who THINK they know what a bad shot is. But do they?

Can you tell the difference between a person who INTENTIONALLY shot a photo out of focus for the effect and the person who may be new and just had a hard time with their photo?

This is not a rant as much as...well...I guess it is a rant :-P

All I know is many voters need an obviously tack sharp, oversaturated photo they have seen a million times in Pop Photo in order to acknowlegde any skill.

Knowing that, it is hard for me to take serious the threads that berate people for entering "bad" photos.
