I have to say I'm humbled by the fine work of some of the photographers on this site. I don't often start threads, but after looking at the Free Study challenge to which I entered, I am amazed at how much talent there is out there. Well done everybody.

I was going to say the same thing. There are a TON of amazing pictures in there. The blue ribbon winner is going to have to be brilliant, and there is no shortage of brilliant shots in there. I'm actually glad I didn't enter this one, as I'm afraid I would have been lucky to be in the top 50%, let alone high in the rankings. It's going to be quite a chore to judge these...

I've been avoiding entering in some challenges also, thinking that I would not score, until I realized that you will never learn unless you participate, even if it means getting a low score. My photos are actually scoring very decent since I stopped worrying about scores.

I don't often enter threads, but wanted to agree with you.

Speaking for myself, at the last minute I pulled out the photo that I had sitting in Study for nearly the entire month at the last hour and submitted another. To my surprise, it has almost hit the 6.0 today, and I hope it stays in that range. My personal goal for each challenge is a 5.5, so I have surpassed that with over 500 entries, and for that I am extremely greatful. Of course, there is quite a ways to go, but I am very pleased.

Sometimes it is the impulsive entries that do better. The one I entered at the last minute only had one small edit done to it and took me all of a minute to do and put it up, and I spent hours on the one I pulled. Glad I did. All with a crappy camera too, compared to those that others use on here.

I can see now that the pulled entry really would have most likely stayed in the 3's, since I have now learned what is and isn't appealing to the voters here. I think the word "Study" in Free Study has more then one meaning. If you study this site, you will see what is and isn't usually appealing to the voters in nearly every other challenge.

In any case, my kudos to the wonderful photos submitted. Free Study has been an inspiration.

Rose

Damn, I may never pick up a camera again after seeing some of these fantastic shots! Humbled is definately the word for it!!!!! Great job to those that entered this challenge. Some truely magnificent shots in here!

See, I looked through the shots and started voting - the "best" shots are all replicas of stuff that's already been done here. Oh, I see Heida. I see Dave Sidwell. I see Kiwiness. I see Joey. I see Librodo.

SSDD with this one...

I feel like posting links to the replicated shots in the comments. lol

I'm voting right now, and man...I'm having a hard time, I can barely breath because every time I go on to the next photo is just takes my breath away again!! We have some amazing photographers here on this site, I'm SO glad I didn't embarrass myself by submitting to this one! :-) I applaud you all! Nice work, nice work.

EDIT: Yes, Mavrik, there are some replicas...but, those are by far NOT the best of the challenge. This is the first challenge that I've seen things so different from the norm. I've never been shown the sky, people, rocks and all the other things I've seen a million times before for the first time like I have in some of these photos. They are a breath of fresh air, you should be thankful!

I saw quite a few copies too. One several times. Also noticed a good bit of over-processing and/or over-neatimaged. Not saying there aren't great shots in the group, just expected more I suppose.

Sure it's theirs? No. Sure the ribbon winner that's 99% the same posted less than a year ago was? yep. lol

I just like a little bit of creativity and out of the boxness. I'm a big Scalvert fan. Not so much in the "if I dodge, draganize or overprocess this it will rawk" club.

(which is funny because my shot looks VERY over processed but is almost straight out of cam)

*shrug* I don't really care - I just wish we had more to look forward to than leftovers.

I haven't gotten thru all the photos and I have given out several 10s to both the replicas AND the original shots. I s'pose I just wanted something new under the sun. lol

Yeah; but those guys do take good pictures. Anyway. Have you found an "scalvert"? :)

I was just thinking that there are so many copies of styles out there, that it's hard to tell for sure sometimes if a picture is someone's picture or not.

The free study is why I finally became a paid member and I have to say that there are some very nice images in this challenge. Sure some have been done before but that doesn't mean they are lesser in quality by any means. I'm really surprised by my score and comments so far and although I'm still below my personal best I still feel really good about this image. I do see things I will be doing different when I shoot it again (probably tomorrow night) I still like what I have.

Good luck to all who entered and those voting and trying to keep an open mind and giving the image what it truly deserves and not just cause you're bored at seeing that image or type of image.

ROFL! It always surprises (and humbles) me when somebody leaves a comment identifying me as the photographer- especially when the image is completely unlike anything I've done before. I don't always shoot clever setups, though, so good luck trying to figure out which one is mine THIS time.

HINT: You can apparently forget anything that looks like it might ribbon. ;-)

Yeah, great work everyone. You guys really know how to make my life miserable... it'll take FOREVER to DQ all those shots ahead of me. ;-P
