| Ha! No. There were things I'd like to have done to that landscape (ie. darken the back hills). I jumped because when I looked at the results page I didn't see my pic in the 3rd spot. My first instinct was it was gone, not moved up. |

You know Brad, I was really nervous about that. I went with it cuz there were many Top 10 with water in them in the first challenge. My nervousness doubled when that little minx Jutilda left the 2nd comment saying "Beautiful shot. I like the contrast of the rocky coast and the water. But isn't this seascape and not landscape? Hmmmmmm "
I thought I was in for it then...

Gawd help us all, and me in particular, if the presence of significant quantities of water disqualifies from "landscape" consideration. I don't think DPC has EVER had a "seascape" challenge, for obvious reasons (read" landlocked members) and even if they DID, i suppose "laescapes" would not qualify, eh?

Bottom line: "landscape", classically speaking, is any broad, naturalistic study. Seascapes and skyscapes are subsets of landscapes. Or does someone here think Turner's most famous works are NOT landscapes?

Not that anyone should see humor in the very first post I guess because DQ's aren't funny...hmmm, maybe I should just be quiet now.

We also live in a world that loves placing boundaries on what we do. By definition being an artist is not having boundaries about what we can create. However, this is less and less the case these days due to the limitations that artists impose or see imposed upon them. During a recent workshop, while talking about my Paris photographs, I was asked what was my definition of landscape photography. My answer was "just about any subject that is found outdoors." This question surprised me until I realized that it emerged out of the perceived conflict between my wilderness landscape photographs and my Paris (or other cities) landscape photographs. I had never perceived this as a conflict as I consider the Natural Landscape and the Urban Landscape (to simplify) as being both Landscape photography. However, to a "purist" I suppose there can be a difference. Not to me though, and that is my freedom to decide. A lot of photographers feel bound by similar limitations. If you are not free to create, how can you be creative? And if you are not creative how can you be an artist?

Gosh, what a nice surprise to see my picture has a Yellow Ribbon! It isn't as much fun to win it this way but I still am very happy!
I find ribbons are like shoes - they're the perfect accessory and one can never have too many of them!

Sad when images have to be DQed for reasons like this...
The only thing worse is that someone like seriocomic does not get their just recognition at the time they deserve it. :(

Just curious, but how was this not caught earlier when he sent in his original?

| Man, if this is the way it is going its only matter of time i be a ribbon winner in landscape -II. Currently i am 384th position, but i guess there is hope in this challenge. |
