Ok...I love my husband dearly. He puts up with me taking 85 shots of the same thing, agonizing over which one is best, puts up with my requests for his opinions on my shots, occassionaly helps me come up with titles, etc.

But when it comes to brainstorming for challenge ideas......well......he has quite the sense of humor :-) If I paired him up with Slippy or some of these other wild and crazy guys here the world would certainly be in for it!

So, my "revenge" is to make him enter an open challenge here!! Haha! Now that I have my new camera he can use my Sony to enter a challenge. He'd set up a profile ages ago thinking he'd enter some challenges along with me, but never has.

But it makes me curious.....how many of you receive not so helpful ideas from your significant others? Any good stories??

mine is unhelpful in that if i ask him what he thinks of a picture - any picture. Including the one of the rat being torn up by the cat he will say "oh, thats nice".
Arrgghhh!!
But you should hear him tear appart other peoples images. I think people are lucky to get more than a 3 from him when he votes. He never leaves comments though (probably a good thing too, i can imagine the PMs)

I love my hubby and know enough NOT to ask for advice on my photography. He loves my work and if I showed him a blurry picture he'd find something good in it. I ask my son instead, he's much more honest and loves it when he gets a chance to "bash mom" LOL

when i ask if he's got any IDEAS, he says "i'm no good at taking pictures!"

LOL - what IS that?!

My hubby won't help with the thinking part, but if I have some complicated idea, he often helps with the execution.
Good thing is that he can be soooooo pedantic about things. I'll say: "Good enough", but he wants perfection ( and vice versa at times).
For instance this one..... I had the idea, but he bought the candles, calculated, measured and helped lots with the set up. It would have looked much messier if it had been just me doing it by myself.

My ex currently helped me with my last shot... and just when I actually thought that I was satisfied, he actually encouraged me to continue taking more shots just to see what we would come up with. Me being a photo artist and a pastry artist and him being a graphic artist and fine artist, we see things similarily, yet different.

I guess the saying is true "two minds are better than one!" He has always been a great inspiration to me and I'm constantly learning from him through his eyes and artistic abilities, as he learns from me as well. A good combination I think...

My husband is a master of stating the obvious - for instance if the challenge was "Blue" he'd point out every blue thing; saying, there's a blue garbage can - take a picture of that. When you tell him it's not photogenic and would get a bad score he gets miffed!

You can't imagine the strange ideas he's thought of and then seems to really wonder why I don't take pictures of them!

He is so good about driving me around to find pictures, though, that I can't really complain. Sometimes, I'll get out of the car and spend ages taking picture and he just tips the seat back and takes a nap.

YES! This is EXACTLY what I'm talking about!! Hahahaha! Except with my husband if the challenge was blue, he would say "Toilet cleaner is blue....why don't you take a picture of the toilet cleaner spraying our cats" or some such nonsense :-)

I'm hoping that if he actually enters a challenge here one of two things will happen: 1) he'll get that "goofy pic" bug out of the way 2) he'll realize how hard I think about the shots I take and how to meet the challenges.

Either way, I love him :-) Like your husband, he drives me around and hikes around with me until we get something I'm happy with. Shoot, we even ran down half a mile of country highway together looking like fools trying to get some shots of farm equipment backed by the setting sun....craziness!

Mine convinced me that this dud was the best of my 3 choices and persuaded me to enter it in the Reflections Without Mirrors II Challenge (against my better judgement).

Did he also suggested that you swim closer to it to take a better shot?
;-)

My husband will be like oh looks ok. Everything looks ok. Now I know I started taking naked photos, opinions and ideas would come flying out non-stop.

Whatever my husband says when given 2 images to choose from, I do the opposite. I used his choice twice and they both bombed big time.

If I ask my son, he says something like, "Hmmm. I'd give it a six." Been hanging out with me too long. :)

Both put up with me and often help. My husband loves going on photo safaries - he gets to see things through my eyes sometimes. Which is nothing like his eyes. He often says, "Take a picture of that." I tell him to get out his camera and take a picture of that. Eventually he stops... ;)

My husband tries to do photography, since I have taken it up. However we have very different photography styles. He likes to shoot wides and I tend to like narrow closeup portrait type of animals.

Funny story: I asked for a 10-22 for Christmas, but it only works with my 20D not Mikes 10D. He says it is part of a long plot for the 5D since then he would get the second hand 20D and be able to use the new wide lens.

Haha, you all made me laugh... I guess I have a little of all that at home.

My wife is fantastic, she is also a DPC member and we think together about ideas for one another, whenever her idea seems better than mine, she lets me have it. She helps a lot with the settings and waits patiently whenever I take more than 2 hours on a couple hundred shots... however I do the driving hehe ;)

Now things really get interesting when we talk about our ideas with her family or my family... anything can happen, from my mother in law (who I really love) suggesting weird, perhaps ugly but certaintly creative shots... Imagine the 'Shoes' challenge, all the family looking at the floor pointing at ugly, deformed, strange, eccentric and dirty shoes of every single person that happened to be in our way... and I tend to be a little shy when popping the camera out in front of people... and even more if I had to shoot some eccentricity.

Usually before my submission I have at least 6 or 7 votes (Wife, mother in law, father in law, brother in law, sister1, sister2, mother) my problem is when everybody chooses something different... and then I start asking myself why on earth did I have to bring DPC to the conversation again!!!.

Anyway, the whole family is engaged in my 'Refresh Button Addiction' (Ill call it RBA for short), and there is a general feeling of happiness whenever I tell them Im over 6 or 6.5... right now everyone is happy, really really happy (I might even get a special dinner from my mother in law) because I'm over 6.55... Ribbon Zone!!!

Thats my story doc, what should I do?...

Now back to my RBA;)

Hi everyone,

I know I have it really good here. My hubby (Bill) was the one who initially recognized my "eye" and has been my muse and inspiration since. He is my chauffeur on scenic photoshoots, my protective shield when I'm standing on the shoulder of a busy road with my eye glued to the viewfinder), and photo critic. A couple of his "favourites" of mine have been my best sellers, while others have not caught on yet.

We recently went on a two-week VW camper bus driving tour of the Nova Scotia coastline (southern tip). Bill dedicated that entire two weeks to my photography efforts - went where I wanted to go and spent endless hours entertaining Marilyn the dog while I photographed shells, rocks, and kelp on the beach, etc. And then viewed the slide shows at the end of the day after I offloaded my cards to my laptop computer. Many times I wondered - why is he being so nice, and what does he expect back from me. I believe he just likes to see me happy, as it seems I am the happiest when my eye is glued to the viewfinder, or I am the most excited when I think I have captured that perfect photo.

Bill says he is a photographer too - did it many many years ago on slides. He says he does not dare take it up again because I am too competitive (we both used to shoot 3-D archery together, and he's a better judge of distance than I am, resulting in better shots than mine). Recently, I showed him how to use my old Fuji S602 camera, and during the Nova Scotia vacation, he actually took some pictures - mostly of me - with my eye glued to the viewfinder, and others of subjects like crashing waves on the rocks that were more successful than mine! I wish he'd do more, but I would probably be the one managing his photo files (he's just learning computer skills), and lordy - don't I have enough to do with my own!

Just thought I'd share my story - I am truly blessed to have such a supportive partner in this passion.

Linda

I was so excited when Even & Odd popped up for the open challenges!! I called him straight over to my computer and showed him the details and challenge descriptions :-) I think he'll definitely go "odd".

My wife loves to help me out. she has some gret ideas. She'd also like to take some pictures, but hates my digital camera (too many buttons for her).

Oh the suggestions I get are more about where flash cards can go, what to do with the computer, etc..

Share? Me thinks not - there are minors viewing these threads.
