I am soooooooooooooo sick to death of seeing these - how many times are people going to photo flowing water with a slow shutter speed?!?!

It really is boring to see now, unless something exceptional appears - which is rare.

Northern lights too, in the current challenge there are 3 shots all from the same location - are people using multiple accouts or what?

Either way - its sleep inducing and I for one am going to rate any such shots (unless amazing) a flat ONE from here-on in!

Get creative for Gods sake! (i heard he's seen enough too! :-)

OMG your highest rated shot is a water droplet, probably the most overdone shot in photography IMHO.

But thats just my view, glad to here yours.

With no disrespect intended either, but your second shot is of an infant child, another type of image that some people find "sleep inducing".

Everyone has the right experiment and submit what THEY think is cool.

I think it is fine for people to try out ideas that other have done before. Everything has been done before photographically - before this site existed anyway!

you're kidding right? Nearly all of your pics fall into the "whine whine whine we get too many cliche pictures" category, waterdrops and babies but they're great pictures you should be as proud of yours as others are of theirs.

Would you like some cheese with your whine? :p

just venting :-)

but water shots really are being over done at the moment with no originality - sure try things out, but its getting silly now.

a lot of my stuff is `cliche` because i've only been here a short time, but am rapidly moving on `subject` wise now :)
11/10/2005 07:56:32 AM · #10
everybody has to start somewhere, why not by practising on shots that ae maby common.

i think your just jellous that you dont see those amazing lights where you are ;)

Don't forget - you shoot what you see. If you are at the shore you shoot beaches etc, if you are where the northern lights are you shoot them.

did you ever think that maybe the people submitting the shots that you say are boring have also "only been here a short time, but [are] rapidly moving on `subject` wise now "?

Yeah, I for one submitted moving water in the last challenge and probably have one of the photos that you will rate a one in this challenge (not on it's technical or asthetic merit mind you, but simply on your boredom). But to me, I'm trying new things that I have never done before. Some of us are here to learn and practice, not to keep you awake.

Just venting.

Get over it... It's a landscape challenge and these things are part of landscapes and things I would expect to see in a "Landscape" challenge. Let's move on. These ever so increasing threads are getting annoying and redundant. And the fact that this thread was started while the challenge is still in the voting stage is a little on the tacky side, possibly skewing voters views on such photos. I would hope not, but it's been said to happen.

Edited to add, I respect your right to vent but it should really wait until after the challenge has ended.

Nothing new in this thread - just another hypocrite complaining about lack of originality while displaying no more than the average himself.

You have no grounds to complain until AFTER you have gone out and taken the road less traveled and demonstrated you practice what you preach - making shots 47,187 people haven't seen before. You may find it harder than it sounds. If you really believe that should happen, then lead by example, not by whining in the forums.

There are probably fewer current entries of cliché shots than there are recent threads complaining about them.
11/10/2005 09:19:25 AM · #16
Yep. This is very original.

11/10/2005 09:24:22 AM · #17
Didn't we just go down this road, like yesterday?
11/10/2005 09:24:49 AM · #18
I for one will probably never get to experience seeing the Northern Lights in person, so I welcome the photos of them here on this site. I hope I never become so jaded that I fail to find beauty in something, however "common" or "unoriginal" that something might be to someone else.

Its amazing to me the finger pointing, name calling and backstabbing some of the people on this site do. Yesterday there was a heated dicussion on opinions and again, I see it continues. I happen to be tired of seeing the same shots but then I'm just a below average photographer, as I have been told, but I happen to like my work and that's all the counts but my opinions don't. And it seems that as soon as someone goes against the grain or the norm, someone is quick to jump in and start yelling "whiner" and to back their statements up. This is what I'm sick to death of seeing. Everyone is entitled to their thoughts but this isn't grade school anymore so stop the name calling and bullying. Its sad to see the intelligent and thought provoking chat has gone out the window.

If you do it the first time - it's new to you
- and if the masses (or voters) like it, it dosen't matter beause it is still a good image

I think some of the best images are familiar, yet different, the new take on the old image. And since i have never seen all the babbling brooks & streams & waterfalls they are still interesting images

Digression: (though their still must be a way to twist it so it will really wow the crowd hmmmm... nakid ladies in the water mmmmmm.. avg water temp this time of year 4C ... burrr.... :)

I can just picture that :D Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, nipples.... :D

But seriously, everyone has a right to their opinions so if you (dr3amz) feel the need to give anything you dislike a 1 then by all means do so but I encourage you to leave a comment to explain why you gave a descent shot a 1 just so the person knows what warranted that rating.

As for myself, I am a sucker for taking waterfall shots with long shutterspeeds and yes, I think it´s a cliche but I still like it, it just sort of hits the spot for me.

I would agree with you, but the problem is this thread didn't start with an intelligent and thought provoking statement. I'd suggest you re-read the original post before YOU start pulling the thou is holier than me stuff...JMO of course. ;^)

I'm shocked to see another thread filled with so much hostility. Thank god I didn't enter any of these challenges to be voted on. You people need to go have a drink, take a week off, smoke a joint, pull your pud or do whatever you do to relax and just chill for a bit before SC starts going on a "lock down" of the forums.
