I was in the unusual position, (for me), as to what Open Challenge to enter this week. I decided to enter the "Light on White" with a completely different image instead of the "Delicate" Challenge with this one.

Title "... situation"

How do you think this image would have done in the "Delicate" Challenge with the fickle voters? A mate of mine recons that it would be lucky to reach the middle ranks.

I actually really like this picture and feel its one of my better images.

What do you think it would have scored?

Edit ...

"Akira", the dog, is actually smiling. There isn't a bad bone in her body.

Thats about what I would put it at. Was hoping to top 6.4 and be my highest scoring picture.

Thanks for your comment!

Then why didn't you submit it? What made you decide to enter light on white instead? Did you have even higher hopes for light on white?

This is a great shot, it wasn't going to get a ribbon or anything in my opinion, but still a great shot, the teeth and mouth are tack sharp with a very nice DOF on the forehead, I would've gave it an 8 ..

Awesome DoF, great detail, love the concept, top 15-20 easily.

Good luck to all those that entered the "Delicate" Challenge. I'm about halfway through voting. Would have been some tough competition anyway.

I haven't voted "delicate" yet, but I'd sure as heck have seeded that in my top seeds pending further voting... Hell of a shot.

I wondered who was going to be the first to see that! To answer your question ... I really don't know. I seem to have that effect on animals!

I said it would have scored around the middle ranks and thought that the voting public wouldn't have seen the connection to the subject matter (even with the title).

Being that it's my dog and a good shot of her, it wasn't a flippant dismissal of a good shot. I just don't think it would have made the top 20 with the lack of direct connection to the topic "delicate" even though the challenge description clearly gives similar examples.

Having read the responses, it seems that I (happily) would be proven wrong. It just goes to show how people see the same image so differently and why scoring can be, errr, erratic.

Ribbon shot, NO doubt. You should be depressed and kick your friend's ass.

...hehehe j/k! ...about kicking his ass, I mean. I meant it about the ribbon. :)
