Hey I wonderin what are some good raw editors out there, I noticed that when using photoshop for a D70 file it really messes the original up and that is supper not cool, I know about nikon capture but i was wondering if there where any free raw editors out there.

The RAW converter in Photoshop is very good, certainly BETTER than any Free RAW converters out there. You just have to learn how to use it properly. A good start is Real World camera RAW for Photoshop CS or Real World Camera RAW for Photoshop CS2. If you want to go beyond Photoshop's RAW converter you have the more expensive Phase One C1-Pro or SE or LE ranging in price from US$125 to US$500

I use Rawshooter Essentials but still enjoy playing with Canon's File Viewer Utility. It's my little comfort zone I think!

How does this compare to Adobe Camera Raw for Digital Photographers Only

Side by side comparison? Get them both? Get only the former?

I've found with a lot of 'how-to' books I have to go to the store and browse both books to see what style suites me. You may have to do the same thing. A book that's right for one person may not be for the next.

That's what I did this weekend. Unfortunately small town life leads to an utter lack of selection at the book stores. Hence consensus opinion works for me. If everyone said "GLLLlaaaahhhh, don't get XXX book", I'd take it to heart. It's easier than driving four hours to a city with more than a couple of bookstores.

My normal MO is to get them all, an expensive habit I'm trying to curtail.

Have you checked what customers have said on amazon.com? Some books even have a sample of the content that may be helpful to you. Just a suggestion instead of the drive.

Yup. Both are raves. I'll probably wind up getting both (see MO comment from above).

As an afterthought, does your library have some of the books you've been looking for? If so, that might be a place to look in future.
