All you DPCers down near the coast need to batten down the hatches...or better yet, drive on up here. Yikes.

Yup, I live in Houston and it looks pretty bad. My sister and some friends are heading over from Galveston County.

Looks pretty nasty. Lets hope it hits some shoreline with nobody on it.

Crosses fingers.

I'm in Harlingen (about 40 mi inland on the southern tip of TX), and was planning on leaving on the 28th (going to CA for a month to be with friends and family before moving to Australia). Now we may leave this Thur or Fri instead. I just hope we have a good idea of what's going to happen in enough time to make the decision. I'll definitely have bags packed.

My family's all in Corpus Christi and watching the storm with an eagle eye. If it takes a turn in that direction, they may all be camping out on my couch. >.>

Daaaang...
ANOTHER one? I find myself thinking of the movie "The Day After Tomarrow" when current weather conditions are mentioned.
I hope all goes well :-S

BTW (sorry to change subjects) you're not alone.Looks like there's a chance we might be in some deep trouble in the near future if this follows thru >>

And that's just hurricane Jova, Kenneth is behind it, followed by another tropical storm, yikes!

For everyone in its path - you're in my thoughts and prayers. Yes, it may sound hokey, but it's the truth... God bless...

I went and hit the hardware stores this morning and talk about madness. No battreies (c or d cell, plenty of AA and AAA) no propane, no chain saws (for fallen trees, I have 4, huge oak trees). no generators

But I did find propane at the 4th place I looked, gas stations a jam packed with people buying gas (i did fill up), grocery stores are running out of food.

I have most of everything I need to live on for about a week, but I gotta run up to the vet and get some food for the kitties and 1 more cat carrier (just incase we need to bolt outta here).

I will keep you posted on things down here. I have contacted anohter DPC member with my contact info to check up on me if I dont report back

Rita's not playing around...she's going to be a tough one. I hope all you folks down on the coast are seriously considering making a drive north. Please.

I am feeling a bit uneasy now.

I am in far west Houston (near Katy). Thats far enough enough to feel safe, but near enough freak out a bit.

that is not far enough

yeah, we were planning a big trip from oklahoma city to san antonio to visit sea world for my son's b-day. Unfortunately I booked the hotel room from hotwire, so no refunds. I know it won't be hit as bad as the coastal areas, but probably no fun at sea world :( anyway, if we don't go, that is $160 down the drain.

FoxNews just reported that the pressure is dropping more and that Rita, as of right now, is the 3rd Strongest Hurricane in recorded history, behind Gilbert and the great labor day hurricane (1935)..

Try calling your credit card company and negotiating with them.

I live in Wimberley, a few hours from the Gulf between Austin and San Antonio Texas. All healthcare agencies today notified patients at home on ventilators, etc. to make sure they have generators or get to a hospital before the storm hits us.

They have asked Houston residents to evacuate. It took me 3 1/2 hrs to make a one hr drive this afternoon. Millions of coastal evacuees are heading our way. They said on the news that where we live it will still be a category 3 when it reaches us Saturday. Unbelievable.

I am going shopping tomorrow as I live on a hill but can't leave home without going through flood waters if it rains really hard. Two more days to go. Wish us luck, please.

My older daughter lives in Houston and has come up to Austin to stay with us while the hurricane hits. I hope everyone will leave the coastal area because they don't know the reality of what a hurricane is like until they have gone through one or have seen it's aftermath. We lived through the one in 1983 (Alicia) and that was "only" a category 3! Never again!!

note: You won't find a hotel/motel available in Austin because we have the Austin City Limits on this weekend! I have heard there aren't motels available until you hit Dallas!

As a New Orleanian Suburb dweller who's just gone (going?) through Katrina, my prayers are with everyone in Rita's path... May she die a quiet death at sea... Or at least get real sick and weak before she hits land.
