A suggestion not for a topic but who gets to choose it.
The winner of the previous challenge is allowed to choose the next topic. Just imagine!

I'd like to see the topic "Metamorphosis"... Show your interpretation of something/someone going through a change of any kind.

The problem with that is that at the same time the winner is posted, so is the next challenge. It would have to be done in a flip floppy week thingy (did that make sense?) and it would be confusing (just about as confusing as this sentance).

Plus, it would probably require extra coding or at the very least, extra effort on the part of the people who decide these things...

How about a "living" challenge or "clouds" or "Booty's" or "mailboxes" just some suggestions.

How about letting the loser choose, keep them involved in the process.

Deja Vu:
Take an already published photograph (one used in an advertisement for example) or a famous photo and try to duplicate it. Your submission will consist of two images, the original and yours side by side (for landscape - one on top of the other). The title should reflect the original's name or the publication that it appeared in. Spot-editing would need to be allowed so that the images could be combined and submitted as one entry.

Wait... on second thought, if spot-editing were allowed, how could you tell that the person didn't just scan the original. :-( Nevermind I guess. Unless someone can think of somehow to do this.

Prompted by the 'Crispy or Blurry' thread:

Experimental - play with unusual focus, exposure or some other technique and come up with something out of the ordinary.

How about a challenge that would help all of us budding photographers in other areas of photography, like "weddings". Photograph anything relating to a wedding.

Being Friday 13th I thought I'd suggest "Superstitions" as a challenge topic. There's tons of superstitions. Use your title to your advantage, to ensure the voters know what the specific superstition is without relying solely on the visuals. I don't think this challenge has been done, at least not since I've been a member; no doubt I'll be corrected if I'm wrong. I'm sure it must have been suggested before though. Cheers

How about a challenge of Construction: Show something in the process of being built.

And also a challenge of Ruins: Take a picture of ruins.

(sorry about the descriptions. I'm not too good with those.)

Here's some suggestions I've quickly thought up. Sorry if they've already been mentioned or have previously been done.

Wedding luck:
Your shot should encapsulate the old marriage adage: Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue

Something Special:
Take a shot of something that is special to you.

Depth:
Take the best shot showing depth.

Little and Large:
Your shot should show difference in size.

Frustration!:
Take a shot showing something that makes you frustrated.

Horizontal Thirds:
Take a shot that splits itself neatly into three equal horizontal bands.

Vertical Thirds:
Take a shot that splits itself neatly into three equal vertical bands.

Opposites:
Your shot should show opposites.

Shadows:
Take a shot where the subject is a shadow.

Seasons:
Take a shot that encapsulates 'seasons'.

Tall and Thin:
Your shot should be tall and thin (ultra portrait)
[Maybe textually set a width limit]

Times Change:
Take a shot showing how times change.

The Future:
What will it be like in the future? Take a shot showing us!

These are excellent ideas! I like all of them except the "Seasons" idea because it's a little broad.

I really like this idea.

How about:

o Have the three ribbon winners in each challenge submit a new challenge.

o Pick from those 3 at random (so that if someone doesn't have a suggestion or no time etc, there is coverage) The randomness reduces the advantage to any one winner.

o have the SC/ D&L tidy up the suggestions for clarity, but run with them pretty much as is. Have the 'advanced winners' pick the next 'open' challenge and vice-versa. Stagger all of this by about 10 days so there isn't a panic to get it in.

What about having them instead pick from the suggestion database assuming that could be made available? That way non-ribbon winners can continue submitting suggestions who may have better ideas than the actual ribbon winners.

wow, this thread was over three years old when it was suddenly revived by Gordon. I guess the Life challenge beat the Death challenge. ;>รพ

A neat challenge, more for expert editing, might be Distortions. There are many different filters and odd editing techniques that could really make an interesting and creative sort of artsy challenge.

Being new here I don't know if you've did anything like this. If you were a visitor on earth from another planet, what would you find that you just had to photograph.

Famous Artworks: Recreate a famous work of art as a photographic image.

Some have done this already for other challenges and the results are interesting.
