Stupid me. I forgot that the site is on eastern time so I missed submitting this to the liquid challenge. What do you all think?

I think posting outtakes of a currently being voted on challenge detracts from the entries.

Might be good for the glass challenge, but I don't think liquid is even visible in the photo. Unless the wavy blue in the background is liquid, and then it's not really obvious. It's a really nice shot though!

I think a too many people waste too much time going out of their way to find ways to annoy and frustrate people just because they can. But, I don't know, maybe your an innocent passer-by and that doesn't include you... In which case, what mavrik said...

I don't think Jason is being "annoying" on purpose - he just moved and probly missed the last week or two of forum posts.

Yeah, what Scott said. I'll probably score Snapple shots lower after seeing Jasons pic.

We seem to have this kind of postings every now and then. isn't this like saying, i would have scored 100% on my Maths papers, but missed it? And right after every other students have submitted their papers too. :)

I dont think posting a shot that would have been entered anyway if it wasn't for a little mistake does anything to harm the photos in the challenge. I like the photo, but like Heather said, the liquid isn't really obvious.

And on that note I have to go to school to sit a maths paper :(

Maths paper? Bon chance Ben. I'm going to go and shoot some photos :-)

Just to annoy you. Seriously, hope it goes well.

I hope this is in jest.

I think it's better than most of the entries in the challenge... would have been a 9 from me..

I don't think it is annoying to post outtakes during the week of voting. It has happened here since the beginning and no-one has been affected by it so far as I am aware.

I see the same names over and over in the forums here. I think there are alot more members on this site that dont even read these boards. I cant see how an outake posted during the challenge voting will have any ill effect. I just cant see myself comparing pics to each other anyway, I look at each picture as a seperate entity and score them solely as if they are the only shot in the challenge.

Posting outakes that may give your challenge identity away, is another story...I dont care for that.

This isn't an outtake. He said he didn't make the deadline. Therefore you wouldn't be able to tell anything...

Sorry, I didn't necessarily mean to attribute this to Jason, especially since I didn't really know his motives. There's just a general attitude in recent posts that comes off something like: "I'll do whatever the hell I want, and if people don't like it then, screw them, I'll do it some more." It's just pretty childish. (Not you, Jason, the attitude.)

I have to agree with others that this photo would have been better suited in the "glass" contest rather than the liquid contest. It is a nice shot though.

woahh. sorry to have bothered everyone. i wont post any more pictures in the forums. i only posted this because i didn't get to submit it to the challenge because I just moved to the west coast from the east coast and i forgot about the time difference and went on around 9:30 here, which is 12:30 there to submit it and found out I had just missed it. I don't really care what i get in the challeges, nor do i intend to mess up the challenge for anyone. I submit photos to get feedback on them, and since this didn't make it to the challenge, I was dissapointed that I wouldn't get any feedback on it. Thanks to those of you that took the time to comment on it and I'm sorry for not following proper forum etiquitte. Good luck to everyone.

Hey, Jason,

I don't think the issue was you posted a picture for comment, just that you posted something for a challenge currently being voted on. If you'd waited til after and said "I missed the challenge, what would you have thought of this" I don't think anyone would complain as that seems to be fairly normal.
06/05/2003 11:55:05 AM · #19
I disagree with gachyk. Historically on this site, outtakes and similar shots have been posted during the voting week of the challenge without concern. I don't know why this should suddenly become an issue.

Post away Jason!

qachyk voiced my sentiment well. Jak, I'll admit to being relatively new (3-4 months), so maybe I don't have the correct historical perspective. I've seen a lot of complaining lately about this issue, and I was under the impression that it was generally considered bad form - a position I would agree with.

But I'll try to refrain from going any deeper, since the issue's been hashed well enough before. I just wish the site leadership would come down and make an official policy one way or the other. I would happily accept it (though I'm not sure everyone would) and move on.

Jason, I again appologize for seeming to single you out. It was a kneejerk reaction to a greater issue that apparently you probably weren't even aware existed. And (seriously) welcome to the left coast! If you're like me, you're going to hate having the challenge deadline at 9pm local time. It really tends to interfere with Sunday and Tuesday evenings!

And on you picture, I broke down and looked at it. (I was resisting on principle!) It's technically a very good shot. Like the lighting and color. But the subject does seem to be the bottle, and so like others said, it would be more appropriate to glass. I probably would have given it a 5 or 6, depending on how sticky I was being about meeting my interpretation of the challenge at the moment.

Er, for the record, I didn't state my opinion one way or another about whether or not the post-during-challenge-week is acceptable. I was just pointing out what I'd seen about why some people were upset.

Please do not attribute opinions to me I haven't stated. I actually don't care which way people handle this; it doesn't bother me if people post missed-the-challenge pictures during the voting, but I could see why some people would prefer they didn't. *shrug*

All I was trying to do was point out for Jason that I didn't think anyone would have said anything to him about it if he'd waited.

gachyk, it is hard to know to whom your last post was directed. If at me, I certainly did not attribute any opinions to you, merely noted the historical reality that we've ALWAYS done this from day one and no-one has been botherewd by it.

06/05/2003 02:49:57 PM · #23
I think that the original problem (discussed in other forums as well) was actually about posting outtakes from the challenge that give away which entry was yours in the challenge. Since he didn't even enter the challenge, I don't think he's got to worry about giving away which one was his. I don't care either way either. Post, or don't post.

Er, ok, on rereading your post, while it sounded like you were stating an opinion, yes I see that you were simply summarizing "the issue". In that light, my comment still stands: you voiced my sentiment well. Technically, I didn't say that was your opinion. (Though, in honesty, that was what I assume from your posting...)

English is always the hard part... :-)
