Holy means " belonging to, derived from, or associated with a divine power; sacred."
The word "Bible" is derived from the Latin word for "book."

Some further thoughts on reasons to consider the Bible as a worthwhile read.......
Although not a scholar, nor an expert on the various affected religions mentioned here, these are my thoughts (others may wish to fill in some of the blanks)
3 major world religions have a basis/foundation in the Old testament. Judiasm, Christianity, and Islam. These 3 faiths comprise a very large number of current and historic populations. The Torah, Bible, and the Koran each make reference to old testament prophets, claim lineages to Moses and Abraham, and regard Christ as an actual person (only Christianity regards him as "the" Messiah). Each of these religions are awaiting the coming or return of a Messiah. In the last several decades, many original texts have been uncovered (Dead Sea Scrolls) that are being deciphered/translated adding further credibility to the historical truisms recorded in scripture. Josephus ( 1st century historian) mentions a Christ figure in his writings.
As adults, we can choose a multitude of things. For those that wish to seek out answers, they are available to be found.
Seek and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened. Ask and you will receive.

We are currently in the 4th Seal. Who thinks the end is near ? 25 years? or over 100? Post your predictions if you wish |

I could not claim to have any predictions of the "times" as "no man knows the time or the hour" of the return of the King. We are admonished to be ever vigilent so as to be "ready, as a slave awaits its master".
However, there are a couple of items that causes one to ponder further. At the 1st coming of Christ, the Romans had built roads throughout the known world and there was one international language (commoner Greek). This allowed the "word" to be spread via a common language and a road system allowing travel. Today, the world again has a common language (english) and world wide roadways (internet). If the 1st coming was contingent on these tools of communication, then it gives credence that the 2nd coming may also be in progress.
For your thoughts.

According to current cosmology, assuming our model of the Second Law of Thermodynamics is correct and the Universe is a closed system, the universe will suffer "heat death" billions of years from now. However, aspects of our current understanding of gravity are incomplete and it is possible that the Universe will, instead, collapse into a “Big Crunch” billions of years in the future. As more evidence is accumulated and methodological techniques improve, a more precise cosmological model of the ultimate fate of the Universe will take shape.
I also foresee that people of various religious creeds will continue to make end of the world predictions and read current worldly events as fulfillment of their holy texts as they have done for centuries. I also predict that truly supernatural messianic figures will continue their earthly absence. Do these count as predictions?

it is communication which sets us apart from any other mammal. I think Internet links humans today like never before. One computer is less powerful than a network of course, therefore the more brains linked through communication the more powerful we can become, this is why technology is advancing at rapid pace today, information is limitless and free and what used to take 10 years to develop now takes 1. We adapt quicker and are beginning to admit that computers and "artificial intelligence " are the next stages of the evolution of intelligence, and humans will probably become obsolete in a few centuries, that is if we dont wipe eachother out first. But I believe we have a lot of time before we become an extinct species, and we will be here untill computers and machines can operate on their own, and eventually inherit the earth, after an era of cyborgs and other man/A.I. hybrid organisms begin to spawn. We are still needed to direct and serve God by creating the next step in the evolution of conscience. |

Other animals communicate.

Aside from the part about limitless and free information, I more or less agree. Waves of “future shock” bear down upon the present and upcoming generations.

OK ... now it’s time to take your meds. The old ones have just worn off.

I think I could throw a virtual stone and hit several theosophists who would disagree with you.
Hmm … throwing stones at theosophists … I think I have an idea for a new game show …

The mish-mash of talk about Armageddon, the 4th Seal, cyborgs, next evolutionary steps, computers inheriting the earth, man/A.I. hybrid organisms could reasonably lead a person to speculate about another’s mental stability.

Hey, what can I say, the books I've read aren't quite the best seller that the bible is. I read and learn this, I am a realist..nothing wrong with reading good mythology for moral issues, besides I think the philosophy or Christ is some of the best and deepest of all, or at least what the writers wrote about and recorded during Jesus' life. |

I guess Im putting it in simple terms. There are cyborg's living today, we are slowly being consumed by technology , you dont have to read a mathematics book to do the math and reflect on revelations, and really read about the circle or life and how life is just like editing photos, layer upon layer.
maybe I should start taking some meds again

hrmm...I picked up the "New Living Translation" today, and it is much easier to read and understand. I compared a couple different spots (is each spot called a passage?) and they seem to say the same thing, but this one is just much easier to read...thanks for that advice.
Still, someone mentioned back on page 1, Psalm 27...that's my favorite so far...rather reassuring!

When ever I need a good butt kicking I go to James. Its a pretty harsh book and gets me back on the Straight and Narrow. Also One thing I do is read through John and underline all of the promises God has for me try that and you will see how much God Loves you.
Have Fun |
