The description: .""A tree branch, a bank branch, a metaphorical branch. This word has many different meanings
I went through them and most of them are pictures of a tree branch? What ever happened to originality and creative thinking?

You can take a look at my entry ;)

Mine's certainly not a tree branch and it's not doing very well. Maybe I should have been less creative.

Honestly, I'm at a loss as to what many of the photographers were trying to accomplish here. Am I asking too much that there be a point to the image other than meeting the challenge? I don't care if its a pretty picture or its a picture with a story or a moral or I don't know, just something where I can look at the picture and pull something out of it. Other than here is a tree branch I stood under and snapped and submitted.

No shrubbery here!
I'm doing about what I predicted, but higher votes are always welcome. :)

Mine's not a tree branch, it definitely has "branches", I think it's a striking image to look at, and it's hugging the lowish fives, so... I'm not 100% sure people think it really meets the challenge...

An old, sad song for me, eh? jejeje™ But my HC is doing great, thanx.

Yes maybe the word "branch" has not so many different meanings after all.

I confess, I shot a tree branch(es) - i don't think it is a giveaway here :)
I guess one way to be original is to choose how you shoot rather than what you shoot...

Sooooooooooooooooo many blown highlights in that challenge! :(

I like my tree branch. It is a sympathetic branch ;-) I think composition is very important in this challenge. An original subject is harder to find (I was thinking of shooting the Nile delta in Egypt from a helicopter...)

My highest votes (so far) all contain tree branches. It's not the subject matter, it's how it's shot!

But I do really think that if you do not have a picture of a tree branch, you wont score high in this challenge, because of misunderstanding or plain narrow minded thinking. I think creative shooters that want to interpret the theme in their own way suffer because of it.
I looked forward to see what people would interpret for a branch for the description of the challenge offered such, but was highly disappointed. I think photograpy is not just clicking the button but show the viewers a new perspective on the subject.

And a tree branch is a tree branch no matter how it shot. I think many of them are very well taken and I gave some good grades. But the point IĀ“m making is that I got bored looking at them all.

Okay, instead of randomly commenting when the mood strikes, I will start by commenting on the non-tree entries. That way I won't be overly negative on all the 'duplicate' entries.

i disagree. A tree branch can be a lot of things. A fishing pole, a tomato state, a faeries wings.

People here that shoot creatively know their images wont do well (gosh i know my wont unless i shoot for the pack). The ones that continue to shoot creatively, they just don't care. And then i think somewhere down the line, people start to enjoy that creativity and it starts to do well. People have gotten used to Joeys warped mind after all.

Some topics can sound very easy to meet like Branch, or Shoes. Everyone feels like they are able to shoot something that will fit. This means that the sometimes timid newbies and lurkers will be more comfortable about making their initial jump into the fire. Maybe their entries are not very imaginative but I'm willing to put up with voting on the many repetitions as part of the process of helping beginners to learn their way around dpc, and photography. Think of it as another small task in the spreading of our collective knowledge to those seeking it.

I am guilty of shooting a tree on this one as well... but I did go for camera technique! Still pullin 5's! YEAH!!! hehehe.

As one of those timid newbies...thank you for your comment Coolhar. Nice to know there are people who have been around DPC for a while that have patience for our lack of skills. :-)
