Watching the news, a good portion of New Orleans, and surrounding cities and counties, are severely damaged...people are now without homes, lost lives, loved ones, businesses, vehicles, and other possessions.

Why are a good portion of our troops over in some other country when they could be here helping to cut trees or stop the looting or help rebuild people's homes or save peoples' lives.

It's ridiculous!

I think it has to do with the war.

It's ridiculous...ESPECIALLY since half of the world hates the US because we're in Iraq.

No, it has a lot to do with the cold war too.

War for what? What is the US fighting for?

We're over there fighting because we want those people to live the way WE SAY is right. That's stupid...plain and simple...we need OUR troops here, we need OUR money here.

You're fighting the axis of evil.

And no, I'm not being selfish...it's ours! It's like this...why would I buy you a Nikon d2x, when I don't have any camera at all, and all I want is a Nikon d50.

I'm assuming it's because more lives were feared to be lost if no action were taken than have now been lost in this hurricane.

This is one event where sending money will actually help...so that is the best way we can help right now.

But please, unlike when the Tsunami struck, don't reallocate your givings. If you want to give to the hurricane victims give it over and above your givings to other worthy charities otherwise your just killing African refugees to save American hurricane victims.

I think because if you put 50,000 soldiers in New Orleans the end result would be more catastrophe. You'd have more mouths to feed, etc.

The only military units needed in New Orleans right now beyon the Louisiana National Guard units are units of the Army Corp of Engineers (already there) and the United States Coast Guard.

I think it was a bit uncouth and moronic to try to blame this on GWB. There are way enough soldiers in the U.S. to perform any role in New Orleans that is possible if every U.S. soldier was currently home.

LLLLL - 5 L's for lameness...

No, were over there cause we don't want them to live the way the extremist mullahs tell them they should live or be killed.

Just another point I heard...A lot of the folks that have houses that were destroyed...will not get insurance money back, and WILL STILL HAVE TO PAY OFF THEIR FULL MORTGAGE! Imagine having a mortgage on a 200,000 house, and not even having the house!

Seriously, I can fully understand why some people are homeless and just decide to live on the streets...because I certainly would NOT be giving a multi-billion dollar bank 200k for something I didn't have no matter what I signed or not...it just wouldn't happen.

I guarantee it's bush's fault. If Kerry was president, I wouldn't agree with a lot of things, but at least our soldiers would be here, safe...doing something for their own country instead of helping people that just hate us and suicide bomb us.

If the army can't fight and shoot bullets, the weapon lobby will increase pressure on your president - business and politics form a vicious circle. Clinton did pretty well with that, it's too bad that the cowboy is destroying all Bill achieved.

On this I agree with you...and a lot of homes were refinanced so think more like $350,000 mortgage.

I believe FEMA covers a portion (perhaps up to $250,000) but I am not sure.

But yeah, I've found it annoying that I have to pay close to $3 grand in home owner's insurance because I live near the coast but it won't cover damages due to coastal flooding.

So I am charged a small forture to pay off the insurance companies debts thanks to Florida residents and in return I don't get any safety or coverage.

Pretty !@#$% screwed up if you ask me...

Befoe WWII USA had a law to not get involved in wars outside the teritory. During WWII they changed that Hitler needed to be stopped. That was a good thing. But your troops never came home ever since and they never will. If there wasn't a war they invented one, you know like Vietnam, Corea, ... wepons of mass destruction in Irak, things taht never prooved to be true. Each bombs droped costs alot of $$$$. That is a good business for some people along wit all the costs involved in a war. It's as simple as that.

All this talk about Bush and his war IMO has nothing to do with the current situation in the south. The is plenty of help for NO on the way.

My question is where are the corporations? Did'nt the people in Missisipi and Louisiana work hard for them? Why are the billion dollar companies not in the forefront helping to provide food, water and temporary shelters. You know, those emergency tent camps.

All you hear about them is how much they are going to charge for their gas because thier plants are damaged. Boo hoo.

BTW the oil companies made 4 BILLION in Profit last Q... thats in 3 monthes.

Well I'm not American... so I guess I don't count nor should my opinion on American affairs matter.

Peace

I do not believe there is a shortage of volunteers and guardsmen to clean up after Katrina. If there is I'll gladly take a week off work and go help out.

I'm sure water, money and building supplies are on the way from several generous corporations. It takes a few days for companys to make a decision like that. Today is only day one.

Actually, I do agree with you that I believe the oil companies are endeavoring to raise the prices more than their cost. I believe they're doing so because the U.S. has been about a $1-$2 less per gallon than most of the world and they want to end that.

The oil companies are NOT America. If you haven't done any geo-political studies, you should do so. They're giant multi-national companies. They're also public companies. You will find many Europeans, Japanese, Chinese, and other investors only many of those shares as well.

This if anything is simply a "class" issue as has existed since the beginning of time. The wealthy and powerful can become more so because they have more consolidated power.

Attempts to break this cycle (The Red Revolution for example in Russia.) Only led to a new "power group" who once again maintained the advantages.

Hey, volume discount you know! How else we gonna use the Hummer to drive 1 person to and from work every day. ;)

We should have a challenge where you shoot transportation that DOES NOT involve burning fossil fuels.

Don't shoot me but why do people think we Americans pay less to the (0il company's) then other country's? Did anyone look up how much the price of gas is a tax their government's impose on a equivalent gallon. I read that most of Europe has a tax of 2/3's the price. That rounds out that if you are paying about $8.00 a gallon you are paying the same as I paid today under my tax burden, which is not much of the price. It all goes to the oil company's here, not to the government in the form of a tax.

Really easy to get upset at me because you disagree with me...

But you don't have a home there, your family is safe. Your property is alright.

You'd be singing another song...for all the help you could get if you or someone you knew and loved closely were stranded at the top of a house with rising water.

We need our troops. It is really unfortunate what is going on around the world, and everywhere else, but there comes a time when you have to worry about yourself.
